Almost Bought a 6.2

So I have never driven a 6.2 so I went down to the dealer and they had three on the lot. Two white, one burgundy, neither color of my choice, so I wasn't too excited.

So we wheel it down the road and that eight speed and 6.2 was awesome but is it awesome enough to drop my High County only after 16 months when ya don't really like the color.

Is it really that much better to compromise? I got an awesome deal but I'm thinking about waiting for the 2016's

Thoughts?

The 6.2 is awesome, but I would never compromise. Be patient and get what you really want if you're really wanting to get rid of your high country.

I wouldn't hold out for a 6.2. They do run better but not enough better in my opinion. In the big picture of vehicles today, both the 5.3 and 6.2 are slow, it's just the 5.3 is a little slower.

Slow compared to what, other pickups? Most people don't buy pickups for performance.... But just a few years ago performance cars were this (slow). I've seen posted on this site a single cab 5.3 on E85 run in 13s 1/4 mile, slow indeed.

What are we comparing to here? Compared To a Corvette, the trucks are slow. In the scheme of things, the 6.2 is far from slow, whether it be the Vortec or Ecotec. They are high 14's stock, and with bolt ons and a tune, low 13's or quicker...Very respectable for 5400 lb vehicles.

The 5.3's aren't too shabby either.

OP, I just traded my 14 5.3 for a 15 6.2 both Z71 4x4. The only mistake I made was not doing it sooner. Never saw better than 18 mpg with the 5.3. Right now with 800 miles on the 6.2, I'm averaging almost 22 on the interstate at 75. Power is a upgrade and really happy I switched. I also wanted a 15 to get the 100k warranty vs 60k on a 16.

I own a 2014 HC with the 6.2 and 6 speed. I've been in a loaner LT with the 5.3 and a 6 speed for the past 6 days. There is NO comparison...

I had a TBSS with just a tune, intake and ud pulley. It ran 13.0's. I drove a 5.3 truck and thought it was slow. So I thought I'd get a 6.2 truck. Well I drove one of them, and I wasn't impressed on how much quicker it felt. So instead of waiting for a 6.2 (last Dec when the 8 spds kept them too scarce), I went ahead and got a 5.3. Slow, slower or not, I like this truck alot, and the TBSS was getting old. I would have love to have been able to keep it as a toy, but I don't have those kinds of funds. This truck is alot more useful and nice than the TBSS was fast, so I'm happy with it.

I love the way the 6.2/8 speed works, I don't like paying for premium.

You you don't like the colour have on built with the correct colour or perhaps they can do a dealer trade.

If you don't like the colour now, it will only get worse with time.

The dealer convinced me to take it home. So what do I, I hook it to my 16 foot, 7000lb trailer and take it for a 50 mile trip. Man that 6.2 is a beast!! It pulls way better. MPG was 14 average. I'm definitely upgrading, but I'm going to wait for the 2016's and build me a 6.2 all terrain. I will have a 6.2 in 2016!!!! Much better engine. Wish I could have gotten one when I bought this 2014. There were none available in my area to compare against.

Me coming from a C6 Vette and a 2010 AT with the 5.3 I knew I wanted the 6.2 and went that way from the start, I have never regretted that decision yet. If this truck ever gets replaced it will be with another 6.2 truck as well.

Never settle. I wanted a new truck so badly I almost settled but I'm very glad I waited to get exactly what I wanted. Just get what you want to begin with and save yourself from wishing you'd done it differently.

Maybe if the 6.2 ever came in something not loaded to the 9s I would look at gm again. But after driving a 14 max tow 6.2 with 373s... yeah I am perfectly happy that I bought something else lol. What a slug lol.

Don't settle because you will hate it and dump it anyway. Just how it works.
