So I've seen some people say it got better after an update. Is there an update or not? I checked my VIN online and it says mine doesn't have any recalls. I bought in July of this year.

won't be in the recalls and it might have been done before you bought it. Technically it isn't a recall just an tsb update and your dealer would call you I'm sure (at least mine did) You can always go to gm chat with your vin or call your dealer service to see if your truck needs it

I'm reasonably happy with mine. Overall, it's improved after the latest GM software update. Throttle tip-in response is soft, but that's not a trans issue. I'm sure the 6.2L/8spd would be much improved with a tune, but for me, that will have to wait for a few years due to the warranty issue.

Mine didn't show up either so I just assumed mine was addressed before I purchased (6/10/15), and I also knew about the software update TSB. When I went in for my oil change last week they told me I had 2 recalls, but they did say that this was the first time they had seen this recall so maybe it's recently escalated.

I thought it was just a TSB also...

Hmm.. Well I did just check recall part of the myChevy site and nothing is showing up. It does say however that of recall has already been performed then it would not show up so maybe it's possible it's been done already. Maybe I'm wrong but if I call dealer and if it hasn't been done then it probably wouldn't show up to be needed because it's not on the site? This assuming it is a recall as yours shows and not an "update".

yes my chevy or mygmc will only show real "recalls" like the airbag stuff etc This is not a recall but a tsb, you either need to get on with gm chat or contract your dealer. I had 3 "recalls" done and they have never showed up online.

Where do I go to talk with "GM chat"? My truck has a 1/15 build date and I'd be interested to see if the TSB has been done yet.

just google gm chat and it is the first thing that comes up, have your vin ready. doubt it has been done, mine was built around the same time

Bought mine on 4/28/15 and dealer had to keep it for 11 days to perform the tsb (recall) 15178 before driving it home.

Build date also 1/15. No drive train issues yet with about 2k miles. So far I give the 8-sp a 2 thumbs up. After owning

a '10 5.3 w/3.42 and a '12 6.2 w/3.73 gears (both CC short box 4X4) with zero issues I hope this trend continues.

Enjoy all the safety features of the HC model, only issue is the lumpy drivers seat because of the orientation of the

haptic seat motors (the lane departure warning actuators RPO Y65). These can be rotatedflat to correct the problem.

This is no doubt another topic and a safety alert has been issued. Just FYI.

Good news...Took a short 160 mile round trip with all types of conditions this past weekend...Interstate, 2-lane hilly, through

2 towns, 1600' to 6150' elevation and return and recorded 22.2 mpg on both trip A and B readouts. Believe the 6.2 8-sp

with 3.23 gears is the best overall combination for mpg and towing power GM has ever built.

Have read many posts discussing "tune". Can someone explain if this is for the engine or transmission or both?

Any input appreciated as where, type, cost, etc. Bottom line is the costs-vs-benefits. Also, does this affect GM

drive train warranty? Thanks in advance.

I've had mine since May. Over 4000 miles now. It's been great for the most part. Occasionally the 1 2 shift is really hard when Trans is cold, especially if you give it very very light throttle. I just towed with mine for the first time this past weekend and all I can say is Wow. So smooth, quiet, comfortable, and plenty of power.

To me this seems to have since gone away since about 5-6k miles were put on the truck which seems to be odd, not that it bothered me really, and it's actually been colder out.

My transmission seems to be right in the sweet spot, but even day to day I notice it changes depending on what kind of driving I've been doing. If I've been doing highway driving lots one day, the next day it feels more reserved and doesn't feel as aggressive. After a day of towing something, the next day unloaded it just hauls ass the moment you press the gas. I firmly believe now that the programming on these trucks is adaptive.

What's the verdict on that combination from those of you who have owned one for a while now?

Am approaching 2K mi, and mine shifts great. Just gotta remember it's an 8-speed, i.e., spastic gas pedal movements have potential to send the TCM on a gear hunt and result in herky-jerky shifts. Older 3- and 4-speed trannies of days past were far more tolerant of spastic gas pedal movements due to less gears for a given situation and greater propensity to "hang on" to a gear. Steady, definitive gas pedal movements with the 8-speed, however, will reward you with decisive shifts.
Full disclosure: Engine and trans performance were unimpressive initially, throughout the first tank of gas. May have been because the dealer put in 87 octane (which they did do), may have been because the TCM was doing some initial learning, or may have been a combination of the two. Again, drives out great now. Love it.

I can agree. I actually drove a 2015 6.2L 8 speed Denali on Friday. I was toying with the idea of trading up because I got a letter from my dealer saying they wanted to buy my truck. While the 2015 8 spd 6.2L 3.23 felt good. I didn't feel like it was THAT much better than my tuned 6 spd 2014 5.3L 3.42.

Pfffft... Like you wouldn't tune the 6.2 also, and it responds even better than the 5.3 does. Do it, listen to the little red guy on your left shoulder.

STOP! hahaha dangit!

I could just install a supercharger on my 5.3 and save myself having to trade trucks......

Some interesting replies, thank you guys, much appreciated!

I'll make sure I drive all of them if I can to see if there is a noticeable difference between trucks.

I don't really plan on buying (didn't plan on buying when I bought my 2010 though either) but if I do, I will definitely be sure there is no noticeable sloppiness or any type of vibrations.

Thanks again!

    • Which one, the AT or AS?   Starfire is made by Cooper/Goodyear but at $85/tire I'd think I'd need to level-set my expectations that they may not even be round 😉 But you're saying they're decent?   I'm already into this thing $1506 in parts, fluids, etc. Totaled all my receipts today. $250 of that was replacing an EGR and MAP sensor that were probably fine, but I'm not going to return the parts since they've been installed. I'm cheap, but not that cheap. I use it, I keep it!   I may or may not make money if I sell the truck at this point, but, that wasn't really the point. And if I billed my time, I'd be hosed for real. My thought on the tires is I "might" put 1,000 miles on before selling it. I just don't want to put absolute junk on it, that doesn't do anyone any good. If the Solus solidly isn't junk, I'll definitely consider them.
    • I leave mine as is. I'm always a trip away from riding on unpaved roads. Dealer can clean it when they prep it after I trade it in for another new truck.
    • I have these on two vehicles and love them. Pepper is one of them 😉
    • 4WD. Far as I know it came stock with P's and not LT's. Definitely planning to put P's on it, but stock is a 109 XL load rating so I should probably stick within that guideline.   No rebates on anything I can see at the moment. Discount Tire is offering $50 off, but Pep Boys is very competitive on price, and also carries all the off-brand stuff. Les Schwab always wants an arm/leg, but they do good work.   It still has the original spare. Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, thing looks like a tractor tire LOL!! How times have changed.
    • 2020 Sierra 2500 HD (base model) gas engine 4wd.    All 4 windows roll down on their own. Happens somewhat randomly after stop and engine off - when engine turned off, when walking away from vehicle before or after locks activated. Pulled the window fuse F14 Instrument Panel Fuse Block Right; the driver's side still activates from driver's side door panel; passenger and back seat windows activate from local switches on their doors but not from driver's side group of switches. Power mirrors don't activate with fuse removed either (same fuse for both circuits). Problem not solved.    How can they even activate with fuse removed but they are all still opening and can control from each door?  When they open on their own, I can shut them from the switch in each door, but they don't stay closed.    Seems to be activated somehow with key fob; something bumping the key fob in my pocket or just handling - removed key fob and took it far enough away and now the windows stay closed. Replaced key fob batty just in case, no change.    Sounds like some kind of wiring short or maybe electronics. Dealer will first replace electronic control module without checking anything else and I anticipate problem will still exist since their troubleshooting skills are limited to "do whatever the computer says".  In any case, keyfob seems to be activating the circuitry.    Surely I'm not the only one with this issue, but I can't find anything related on the site. What do yall think?   JohnRoy
