Am I Just Overreacting?

It sounds like you'd like a more trouble free car owning experience. Also unless you need a truck for hauling/towing then its up to your generic habits on if you'll miss it. You can see if any dealers around you will do a extended test drive as I've heard people can take the car home for a day and bring it back the next day to see how they like it. In the end we can't tell you if you'll miss driving a truck.

I mean I do haul some stuff and use the bed every so often as I am a DIY'er and when it snows here 4x4 is nice to have. Idk if I will miss the big size of the truck. I am 6'3 300lbs and yes I do fit in the Merc fine but everyone says ill miss the size of being big and tall

My first car was a handmedown 2002 honda odyssey minivan. 205k miles with nothing but oil changes. I missed the ability to feel up tall every time I drive a small vehicle. I won't ever miss the size of a truck though. Makes me worry that I am going to hit the side or something between parking and driving.

You said you have a tahoe so if you wanted to you could get a small trailer for your DIY stuff (assuming it doesn't fit in/ontop of the tahoe). But with how hard you seem to have driven your truck (51k miles in 2 years is quite a bit) and mercedes having that 6 year unlimited warranty I would advise you go for it.

When I first bought my truck I ran a business out of Chattanooga which is about a 3 hour drive from my house so weekend trips back and forth put the miles on quick back then. Since i've dissolved the business I haven't put them on as hardcore as back then

Then its up to you. Me, personally, if I had a vehicle for all my diy stuff and whatnot I'd go with the Merc. You'll probably get everything you want with the merc. Its up to you to decide if you want a truck or not for the truck capabilities. Or just because it is a truck.

Well I would say just let the dealer fix the noise this time and keep driving it.. Or trade it in for a new one. Seems like a drastic change going from a big truck to a Mercedes. These trucks really don't have that many big issues where I would be worried about buying another one, but you have to understand mechanical stuff breaks

Well, if they're telling you one thing and doing another on a consistent basis, then I'd have to say they're a bunch of two faced liars and you are a fool for continuing to do business with them knowing they are dishonest (although, I suppose we have all been there when in a pinch and left with few options). Have you taken your truck to a different dealer for a "second opinion"?

As far as trading for a Mercedes, I dunno anything about them. Luxury brands you hear horror stories about cost of repair outside of warranty, but I have no first hand experience there. I would, however, recommend giving yourself some time to calm down and rationally decide what you want to do rather than dropping a ton of cash in an angry, emotional decision. Even if you need to rent a car for a couple weeks, or months even, it'd be cheaper than wishing you never bought the Merc 6 months from now.

Good luck. I know it's frustrating, but don't make a bad situation worse!

A part that's been installed as a mis-diagnosis is never returnable. An unused part may be, but usually not for electrical. That's the norm for every parts department at every brand of every dealership.

Courtesy transportation is what's promised by GM warranty. That would include a shuttle ride home and back again to pick up your rig. If it's longer than a day's work, you can have a loaner, even a rental at GM's expense. However a starter is not an all day job and the ring gear/flexplate probably isn't either.

I tell you what, if you want free loaners at the drop of a hat, get a Lexus.

My wife has a 2006 GX470 that we bought used and every time I bring it for anything I get a loaner. (And free frufru coffee and shit too.) It's way past the warranty and we aren't even the original owners. Granted, I have spent about $3500 with them on maintenance and tires, so I kinda paid for that loaner.

The axle seal alone is a one day job and they got to do the parking brake since the axle leaking ruined them and the recall. My truck has been there since saturday and won't see it until wednesday possibly

I just looked up the flywheel replacement and it's covered under powertrain for sure. I would just take the truck to another dealer since clearly, this one is ripping you off.

Ouch! All I can say at this point, is maybe you're better off jumping brands if that will mean a better dealer experience. I still say weigh your options carefully and make sure you get what you really want in the end. Best of luck!

so I had no other choice but to give in and buy a starter from a dealer so I had it right then to change and be good to go. So call the nearest dealership which is an hour away and got one.

It's no help now, but next time just order a starter rebuild kit online. For example, I just rebuilt my Integra's starter...for $18 and a few minutes of my time, it's very easy to do. Or just go to AutoZone for a cheaper alternative than OEM.

Steven, first let me say, I'm very sorry for your loss of your parents... Secondly, it is a noble thing you are doing, stepping up to take care of family the way that you are. This doesn't happen enough nowadays. You are clearly a good man.

With that said, I gotta admit, reading through this thread, things just don't sit right...

1) If you are working 2 jobs to support family, why allocate the resources to a luxury vehicle?

2) Given your propensity to DIY and your admitted mis-diagnosis/repair, is it possible that there is more to your dealer issues than being discussed?

Please understand, I'm not trying to attack you. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you. It just seems that you may have opportunities to make life a little easier on yourself, that's all.

Steven, my grandmother used to talk me through these moments by reminding me that in the end it will all work out..

Just have the dealer repair the truck, use an american express card to pay for the repairs. if you don't have one get one ASAP.. it's worth the annual fee.. if they do not address and resolve the issue which should be clearly explained and documented on the repair order with your signature and the service writer's name. after you take the truck back if it isn't right? call Amex and have them dispute the payment.. Amex is the toughest company to get around if a customer disputes the charges, they just won't pay them or better yet, charge them back for whatever was already paid...

then those people on the bottom get called up by the people higher up and things start working out... you have to have life experience in these areas, something you only get with years having to deal with them.. so good luck, pay the repair bill but if they try to say it's something else after you take the truck revert back to the CC company and have them figure it out..

don't get rid of the truck for this. you're gonna get another one and at least with this one you know what you have.. buying a car is a waste for someone like yourself given the limited knowledge i have of you from your posts, you want and NEED a pickup..

good luck

    • Can anyone explain why the oil pressure runs higher after the DFM is shut off?  just installed the Pulsar Lt.
    • Thanks!  I figured as such; GM and other manufacturers have used standard parts and harnesses across trim levels and such for decades.  I pulled the blank accessory cover off of my commuter van (a 2016 or so Chevy 15-passenger) years ago and found the plug for a USB outlet.  It wasn't connected to anything, though (I tried swapping in an outlet from another van).  I was a GM Tech years ago (late-90s) and was pretty familiar with my 2006.  I might be wrong, but I view newer vehicles (pretty much anything made in the past 20 years) as being a lot more plug and play.  Meaning, more unused wires and plugs unless you have the Mack Daddy of vehicles.
    • not all plugs will be used.  gm uses more generic harnesses that support most/all options, and if your truck doesn't have a specfiic option, the plug won't be used (commonly will have a dummy insert in the plug , or it'll be taped up, but some may just be left as is).  But it's sldo possible some p.o. has installed the wrong/cheaper parts that aren't correct for your vehicle...
    • First off, I'm not trying to just get easy advice/fixes for the issues I've noticed so far.  I'll be combing through the site via searches and such, and if past experiences are any indication, should find what I need.  For the sake of conversation, though, I figured I'd post the handful of things I've noticed in the 12 hours since buying my 2010 SLE CCSB.     Indicator lights: Airbag and TPMS.  The tire pressures aren't reading for any of the wheels, so I'm pretty certain the sensors were either removed, are damaged, or are otherwise inoperable.  I used to mount and balance tires 25 years ago but am pretty much ignorant when it comes to TPMS.  My 2006 didn't have the sensors and this might be the fourth vehicle I've owned that does.     Radio: Rear speakers aren't working.  I removed the driver's side rear door panel and checked the speaker and wiring.  I also removed the sill and b-pillar covers to check the wiring.  A few minutes of Google Fu showed that this is potentially a head unit issue.    Switches: Power mirrors don't turn left/right.  I ordered replacement driver's door switches that should arrive tomorrow.  The windows and locks work but it was only about $20 for all of them.  The driver's side rear window switch lets the window down but won't put it back up.  I think the passenger rear doesn't work at all.  In the coming days/weeks, I'll break out my multimeter to check all of that.   Unknown wiring harness: There's a box attached to the front driver's side of the engine compartment, right where the second battery shelf is located.  There are three plugs, one of which looks like it fits a standard headlight-style bulb (9007 or similar).  It doesn't look like it's plugged into anything.  I'll do some digging and if I don't see anything elsewhere on the site, post some pictures here.   Unknown plugs on brake booster: There are at least two female plugs on the brake booster that aren't being used.  I think it might be a replacement/aftermarket, so maybe those are used for a different application, as there don't seem to be any unplugged harnesses and no indicator lights are on.   Little squeaks when turning: Sounds almost like a bushing around the bed of the truck.  I'll have to pay close attention as I get more familiar with the truck.   Clunk on acceleration: possibly the infamous drivetrain clunk.  My 2006 had it and I'm just not familiar enough with this truck yet to fully grasp what it is.   Anyway, my apologies for the vague and all over the place post.  This truck is new to me, and it's been four years since I drove my 2006.  With 200k miles, I know I'll need to learn this truck quickly to avoid having any major issues, despite being confident it's got much more life to it.  My 2006 had nearly 320k on it when I parked it (nearly 300k of which I put on the truck), and it was still drivable then, though I suspected the head gasket might have blown.  I'd hoped to have that truck back by now, but it's gone forever, as I detailed in my reintroduction thread.
