1.59 here. As a big oil state the low oil prices are bitter sweet. Lots of small towns out in the western part of the state are starting to feel the effects as people are being laid off but the low prices are helping the local trucking companies and the farmers.

I don't feel sorry for the big oil companies however after they made billions in profits the last few years.

$1.22 for E85 yesterday

With Iran now adding to the glut in oil, a dollar a gallon throughout the country may be the norm in about six months.

Six months may be too long...

^^^This^^^ I paid 1.69 for diesel the other day...I wanted to cry. However it is nice to be able to fill up the wife's car for 28$, just hope I can keep a job to keep paying for the car or it wont matter what gas costs. I feel sorry for everyone that has already been impacted by this and wish them the best.

On another note I really don't understand why people get mad at "Big Oil"? They don't determine the price of oil....

Oil industry is naturally volitile. I assume most of you guys that work there plan for it?

I'm blown away the idiotic company I work for still exists because it is run so poorly(if or when it does go the way of the dodo, I'll be disappointed I will lose my job, but I won't be sad the place is gone). I have planned for(expected) it disappearing since the first few months I was there over 11 years ago....

Knowing what I do about stuff like oilfield work, related manufacturing, hours, intensity, etc, I doubt most of the people there will have much issue finding another job eventually. Most of it requires work ethic, skills, motivation to do it.

Something like 9 million people in the USA in oil industry related jobs. You guys know pretty much Everything needs oil in some fashion(either in production or transportation), so low prices will help the other 390 million have more to spend, could grow the economy enough to make new jobs.

Yep, if you work in the oil and gas industry and don't have at least a little put back for hard times you have missed the boat. I have been fortunate enough to go through these downturns before. The wife and kids just won't like the new budget, ha!

I really do hope this helps the economy. I just don't see it when the oil companies are cutting billions and billions, that they would have been investing into the economies, just to stay afloat. States, Cities, Hosing markets, banks, restaurants, grocery stores and everything in between is being hit right now. It isn't just the oilfield employees that are being affected. Everything that those employees touch, every town that company operated in is being affected. I just don't see how a decrease in gas price is going to stimulate an economy when there is so much money being taken out of it. Everything that oil touches needs to adjust to turn around the economy and that wont happen because companies are greedy. Granted a lot of the oil companies that are going under made horrible business decisions and were greedy, they made their beds. IMO

Depends on what part of the country you live in if low oil/gas prices stimulate the local economy. In areas dependent on the oil industry, EVERYONE in the local economy suffers in a downturn. I have a hard time believing that $1 a gallon gas will stimulate enough growth in other areas that they will create as many jobs as were lost in the oil industry. Or that they will create as many jobs that pay as well as those lost from the oil industry. Maybe I'm wrong on that, I don't have the numbers... Regardless, it's the nature of the beast. Booms and Busts are just part of the industry.

Just like those in the industry should prepare for lean times, everyone else in the country should not get too complacent with $1 gas either... the pendulum WILL swing the other way eventually. If not from the price of oil/gas itself, I've seen articles where some state legislatures are looking at this as an opportunity to raise fuel taxes. Can't have the peons pocketing all that saved cash, you know!

That was one of the resons, besides a string of repairs, I was happy to sell my Tahoe. No one cares about MPG when you can fill up a monster for $40 bucks.

Boom! It cost's me $45 to fill up a full tank of premium and heck diesel is cheap right now too. I think its about $1.70 in my area so those guys are loving it as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't oil the US's largest export?
