Ike Gauntlet-2016 Dmax vs. 2016 Cummins

TFLtruck just posted the 2016 Chev High Country 3500 dually Duramax test results. The Chev outperformed the Ram in downhill performance and ran the uphill 8 mile Ike Gauntlet run with the exact same weight/trailer 10 seconds quicker than the Ram. It just shows how solid the current Dmax/Allison combo is. The numbers in the brochure mean nothing, in the real world the Dmax is still a top performer.

The 6.0 also beat the 6.4 Hemi which is another example of motor & transmission combos that work very well together.

GM must have the better drivetrain engineers....

I wanna say the powerstroke outperformed both of them though, didn't it? I think I watched a video of all the 2015 model years and the powerstroke beat both of them by like a minute I want to say, it's been a while so I can't fully remember

I don't like competitions where they brag who can go uphill the fastest pulling a trailer.

I care about amount of fuel burnt and longevity.

The 2015 F350 did the run in 9:44:88. So basically 3 seconds quicker over an 8 mile run. It shows how efficient the current DMax/Allison is at getting the power to the ground with the current HP/TQ.

Ford: 2.7 MPG

Chev: 2.8 MPG

Ram: 3.0 MPG

3 mpg roflmao. An 18 wheeler is more efficient

Can you post a link to article?

Those MPGs are the stretch on the Ike going UPHILL.... Not overall towing for thousands of miles.

18-wheelers do not get any better in those conditions.

Since the mpg is so close together I'd like to see it hand calculated.

And for the times uphill...I'm more concerned about how a truck handles a load down hill.

so long

They are using downhill braking applications as a factor also this year for the golden hitch awards. Ram used I think 7 brake applications, Chevy 2, and if you remember the howiw long commercial about the exhaust brake, the ford will probably have to brake over 10 times.

Test wasn't done at same time. Traffic and weather can easily skew their numbers.

That's part of what makes these test a little more "real world" than other tests. The guys are TFL are very clear about their tests and how outside forces can impact those tests. Just like anything, these tests are just one of the many things to consider when looking at truck capacities.

I personally like their tests because they are not brand specific or brand bashing, just stating the facts of their tests.
