Running Board LED Lights

Finally found time to get this done. I didn't want the LED strip visible from the side and also gluing it to the bottom side wouldn't work for very long up here in the cold Canadian winters. So I used the LED aluminum profile housing and clips. The only way this is coming off is if I take it off. Painted the channels to match the diamond white using Dupli-Color perfect match aerosol. Can't see the LED's from the side and the channels look like they are supposed to be there. LED strip is a 5050 cool white and the profile housing's come with a plastic diffuser cover if they are to bright. Tapped into the puddle light circuit since I only want them on in the dark. Good stuff.

I know this is an old thread but have you thought about using a resistor to regulate voltage going to the light, which would in theory dim them a little? They are bright as hell though.

LED's in white come in 3 different variations according to Kelvin rating. What you are seeing is the cool white version which has a blueish tinge to it. I guess is does look like purple.

Yeah, just when I ordered mine all I had to choose from was white or blue. Mine are plenty bright and glad they aren't purple lol

I know this is an old thread but have you thought about using a resistor to regulate voltage going to the light, which would in theory dim them a little? They are bright as hell though.

I added a dimmer switch later on to dial it back. Running about 50% brightness now.

Can you take pics of how everything mounts,please? It's killing me being able to see the leds as I'm walking up to the truck. I'm about to move them to the bottom of my running boards, but would rather have the top of the running boards illuminated for the wife and kids to step on

I did mine mine so it is not vissible and it still hits the top of the step. I don't think it will fall off in the Michigan winter because I used 3m trim tape... only a few more months to see.

Not a bad idea. If it does fall of though, try reinstalling them with adhesion promoter plus the 3m tape.

Cole, can you get a shot from the side of yours with the lights on. On mine when walking up to the truck you can see each LED, reminds me of Christmas lights on a house. The ones you have looks like the black channel that they are in might hide them from the side view. If you're look better from the side I might rip mine off and order those.

I'm thinking about using some plastidip and painting the side of my strip so you can't see the individual lights from the side

How does the color look compared to the puddle light?

I had the same issue with mine for the first month or so after installing them. Everywhere I went, I would unlock my truck but it killed me being able to see the Leds as I was walking up. I ended up removing the lights fabricating some brackets out of slotted angle iron and zip tied the lights to it. I no longer see the lights from any angle. However, they no longer hit directly on top of my running boards, but they are bright enough to where they don't need to. I am 100% happier with this route and the lights being zip tied ensires they don't go anywhere and makes them easier to service if ever needed. I'll post some pics tomorrow

This is after i removed them from the original mounting location where they were easily (horribly) visible. it was raining out all day so I wasn't able to get clear underneath pics of how I mounted them. Try again tomorrow?

Here are the underneath shots of the mounting brackets I fabbed up. The first 2 are of the front and the 3rd is of the rear. I used 1x36x2.25 slotted angle iron cut to 5" and some self-tappers. Zip tying the lights makes the lights easier to remove/service/relocate if ever needed. As said in previous posts, I no longer see the leds themselves from any angle.

Are you running 1 continuous strip or 2 separate strips per side?

Looks like you could bend that angle to make the strips hit the step more and still keep them hidden.
