K&n question

Recommended Posts

So I just installed a k&n intake on my 2015 1500 Silverado. The question I have for you is I only hear my intake when I hammer down the throttle... If driving normal I don't hear a thing .. I was just wondering if this is normal or if I did something wrong on the install. Which I doubt cause I have no check engine lights or lose of power. Any info would be great ... Also if u guys have any suggestions on a better intake I would greatly appreciate it ... Thanks

Agreed with above, shouldn't hear anything when cruising. When it drops a gear you should hear a nice growl to it

exactly as should be. More throttle more air you hear it sucking louder.

I've been wanting to install a K&N air filter, but I haven't really been able to get a solid answer on if it will effect my warranty. I still have 3 years of powertrain warranty left and I really dont want to lose that. Has anybody gotten a good answer on this?

They would have to prove the aftermarket part caused damage.

As long as the issue couldn't have been caused by dirt in the engine you should be good.

Would the dealer be able to prove the K&N was on the vehicle if they did not see it?

Is there trends on MAF they can pull from logged data that would have huge discrepancies?

Was always curious about this, and the reason I leaned towards the Airaid MIT

Tanner709, I would think it increases the air flow in the intake, but maybe someone else could speak to that data being logged. Don't quote me but I think I saw somewhere on here that it was being said that using just a K&N air filter in stock intake was equal if not better and way less $$$

There's always been talk of the oil you put on the K&N reusable filter causing MAF sensor problems. If you go on their website it says they have done a ton of testing and no results have lead them to believe that their intake causes MAF problems (Looking the other way..?). But looking around the web a lot people will claim that the oil going through the filter does cause MAF problems.

I had a K&N intake with the reusable filter on my 2003 z71, I washed and oiled the filter at the recommended intervals. I put it on with about 100-120k and around 160k I started getting check engine light that was reading MAF sensor code that I was never able to repair. I cleaned my OEM MAF and even bought a new one and code would still come back on.

Not sure if I would blame the K&N but I didn't have any engine mods, no throttle body spacer, etc. so that was the only thing that was different from stock.

There was data and results from a test a guy did on here a year or so ago, and it proved the Airraid MIT was the best performer, at the cheapest price, using stock filter and intake box but just the intake tube swapped. I'm trying to find the thread...

I remember this as well. It was the best and by far the cheapest. Full K&N and full other kits dyno'd worse.

It's the other way around in the "real" world.

The dealership can deny whatever warranty they want, and just what are you going to do about it?

By the time you hire an attorney and wait out the court scheduling date and delays, you will have lost a whole lot more than your warranty claim.

And, you probably won't win anyway.

So, if you are worried about your dealer honoring your warranty, don't give them a reason to "not" honor it.

I agree with George, if you want a CAI, get a GM kit. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/186427-new-chevrolet-cai-installed/
