With a heavy heart I must announce I've traded in my 2014 GMC Sierra. Last night I purchased a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport - Ultimate w/ Tech Package. 2.0T (240 hp, 260lb/ft torque), 6 speed, AWD. Really nice vehicle. Leather, heated/cooled seats, heated steering, Infinity Sound, Nav, Lane Departure warning, Camera Guided Cruise control, 360 degree cameras, panoramic sun roof. You name it, it has it. I went with the SUV because, I've never been happy with a car, and wanted to retain some utility. The SFS can fold down the rear seats and reveals a pretty big loading space. I got a great deal on the SFS, and I am happy. Here is the new ride:

 

 

A handful of factors weighed on my decision to trade the truck. And I have been contemplating the decision for a while, about 3 months, and last night I decided to pull the trigger after talking with a local Hyundai Dealer for a week or so.

 

1. I was way over the mileage on my lease, and if I kept driving until December when the lease ended. I would have been stuck with a huge fee for mileage overage. I estimated around $2500-$3000. When I bought the truck, I was working a different job that didn't require a lot of driving. But now with my current job...I drive a lot. Which brings me to my next point.

 

2. Gas mileage. While the truck was pretty decent on mileage, it certainly is no fuel sipper. It wasn't killing m per se, but the Santa Fe Sport will do considerably better all around mileage wise, padding my pocket with beer money in the process.

 

3. My truck was hit two summers ago by an uninsured motorist. I was not able to get any diminished value from the other driver. So If I bought the truck out from the lease company, I would be buying a truck that was worth about 4-5 grand less. But since you cannot negotiate the buyout price of a leased vehicle.I would have been stuck with the residual value. And then if I went to trade the truck in later on, I would likely be under water due to the loss in value from that accident.

 

4. Dreaded vibrations have begun. My truck had been fine for a long time, up until around 37,000 miles. When it started to have some annoying vibrations. At first I thought it was the tires and have had them re-balanced and remounted 3 times. The tire shop assures me the tires are in perfect round, and perfectly balanced. At any rate, I have no patience for vibrations, and it was starting to annoy me.

 

So it's been fun chatting with you guys and exchanging mod tips and tricks. I'll try to poke my head in from time to time. I like to keep tabs on the GM truck community, because I am, and always be a die hard GM truck guy.

 

Side note: I have a handful of items I pulled off my Sierra before I traded it in, so I'll have a for sale post up, but if anyone wants to earmark something, send me a PM and we can work it out.

- Trifecta Signature Series tri-folding bed cover

- Morimoto XB LED fog lights (Round)

- Morimoto 35w HID kit, 4500k bulbs, relay harness, canbus harness

- OEM exhaust system, all in one piece, for 5.3L, (double cab, standard bed)

- tailgate locking system (for the hinge, not the handle)

I did the same thing same color but the V6. The dealer I got mine is also my GMC dealer. Deferent reason for me, I loved my truck I retired and got a new hobby, uber and the mid sized SUV is easer for my older people to get in and out of. My forth Hyundai in ten years good vehicles, I adverage 25 miles per gallon almost 30 on the highway. Still have a Chevy p/u best made in my mind but walking across the lot the mid sized GM SUVs were much higher priced than the Hyundai with less warranty.

You probably have the long wheel base Santa Fe then yea? 7 passenger? My uncle has that one, the V6 in those is nice too! 290 hp i believe.

Yes, wife drives Geneses, we gave a Elantra to my daughter it's ten years old now, I traded a Geneses coup when I got the 14 GMC. We've had the Geneses sedan for 5 years, it still looks new, wife wouldn't trade for anything.
