Spark plugs

So I feel like an idiot. I can put a supercharger on the truck no problem, but last night I went to change the plugs to a heat range colder and I couldn't get a single boot off. These things feel like they are glued on the plugs!

What's the consensus on using some kind of anti seize on the spark plug threads before installing them?

I know most spark plugs already come with some different kinds of metal platting on the threads to inhibit corrosion. Is that good enough or should a small amount of anti seize be added to the threads?

I've also heard not to use any anti seize, because the plugs get so hot that any anti seize that would be used, would melt, and drip down, fouling the plugs, and drip into the combustion chamber.

So do or don't???

I have always used it! Never in massive amounts........just run one tiny/small bead down 0 degrees and 180 opposite side and spread with finger into the threads. It should look like hardly any is used and missing in some areas too. But that is all you need...

I mean I hate to bash FERD again....but go ask a FERD guy about his Autolite plugs and breaking off in block? Mostly the plugs fault but who knows the Factory plugs are ALWAYS the hardest ones to get out? Even when you torque to factory specs and come back 50K later they are easily removed....Be careful on the originals they ****ing TORQUE the shit out of em well every vehicle I have ever owned....

I would not go 100K miles with same plugs at all! These GDI engines EAT,FOUL and CRAP out so called 100K plugs in 60K. Do yourself a favor and @60K toss em! THEY DO NOT LAST 100K

98k on my 14 and mine ran fine, changing them for long tube headers so

The more I see these long projection iridium plugs and here people going 100k the better I feel....I still think 75K should be max but GM has done their homework on these LT GDI'S as the combustion side is staying pretty clean...USE BG products too.

It's called being proactive. I don't wait until my brakes are metal on metal before I replace.

While it might not add any performance, it wouldn't hurt to do.

THANK YOU. Finally someone who gets it.

I agree with you gentleman. There is nothing wrong with freshening up and engine at higher mileage with a new set of plugs.

If anything, the placebo effect is worth it alone!

Ya leave them plugs in 60-75k . then try to get them out. good luck with that. Lets see how much does a set of plugs cost compared to pulling the heads off, valve job, and machine work . Thinks me will service my truck every 25-30 k or so.

Bought AC delco plugs and the Taylor wires today. Not to worried about pulling them out at a 116k miles. Had to do a Toyota engine at 220k miles with original plugs. One plug took me two hours to work out.

I do agree that plugs are cheap insurance and maintenance. I’ve never had plugs make a difference when being changed out at a 100 or 200k miles but it certainly can’t hurt.
