First Oil Change

I did it myself yesterday................Wix filter and Mobile 1 full synthetic. Went with them, because after going to 3 different auto parts joints that didn't carry any brand of 0W20 or any brand of the correct filter, I was getting frustrated. The O'Reillys place finally had the stuff.

 

Contemplated going to the dealer for my freebie; but with the many horror stories I read hear about shoddy dealers/stealers, I just did it myself. That, and I'm heading out of town in a couple weeks, and didn't know if'n I could get it in before then; as I'm self employed and need to bunch up some work before I go.

 

Not as much room under these 1500's vs. my prior 2 2500 Dodges..............but I have to admit that I like the close proximity of the drain plug and the filter to each other!! The filter is so small also; the ones for my Dodge/Cummins would hold 2 quarts of oil!!!!! Once I broke loose the filter, I put a gallon freezer bag over it before I removed it fully to keep the oil from splashing everywhere or going down my arm.............it worked well. I hate adding oil to V8 engines.............trying to hold the funnel in place and pour the 5qt. jug is a pain.........good thing I'm kinda tall.

 

The display read 6% oil life left, and I had almost 7200 miles on her.

I was able to use 3 of the 4 free oil changes and tire rotations before the 2 years ran out. I used 2 different dealers and never had a problem with them not doing it right. I hated to do it since I've done all of my own oil changes, tire rotations and any repair work that I was able to myself. But, it was free so it was hard to turn down. My next oil change I'm going to use Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and filter.

Another reason for nixing the stealer, was that I added "air bags" to the rear suspension, and you're not supposed to the the rear suspension "free hang" with the bags on. I had this nagging fear that if I asked for the the tire rotation along with the free oil change.............EVEN WITH ME TELLING THEM NOT TO PUT MY TRUCK ON THE RACK FOR THE TIRE ROTATION.................that it would've some how found its way up there.

GM's ride a little lower than the others but the proximity is spot on for changing making it SUPER EASY! Just go BUY your DIMPLE PLUG and only put 8qts in it!

You need to get one of these funnels. It works great. Screws in to the oil filler neck so you don't have to hold it. I have the one in the second link.

I myself haven't had a problem with using a regular funnel and don't have to hold it.

Wow, me too! I guess I am outdated? The long neck works just fine and always has......Most people don't even hold the jug correctly when they pour so not sure how any funnel would work those people?

OK Einstein; please tell us "mouth breathers" proper jug and funnel holdage.

You should be able to pour 1qt and 5qt jugs without one drop hitting anything but the crankcase hole......If you can't your obviously not holding the containers correctly....like I said, "most people do not hold the containers correctly"

JFYI; I was able to to it without dripage!!!! Twas just axing for an easier way.......................as I'm coming over from Dodge/Cummins where you add oil straight up in your face!!

Adding oil to these engines would be much easier if there were a neck on the valve cover. I have to use a long necked funnel to be able to add oil comfortably/easily with a 5 qt. jug.

All I've ever owned since getting my license were Chevy full size trucks with a simple cap on the valve cover. The only time I've spilled any was when I had my first truck ('86 C10) and I kept saying to myself I don't need a funnel because I was a teen. Now I do remember once or twice where I didn't spill any without a funnel (probably just lucky), but once I got a funnel (regular one, not one that screws onto anything) I haven't spilled even 1 drop, even with the 5 QT jugs. For oil I just use a short funnel. Oh and I'm not that tall of a guy either, only about 5'8" so if anybody has a tough time reaching it's me, but I have stuff I can stand on now lol.

 

The product must help, but I think it's fixing a problem that's not really there. It's like one of those products that sells it by making you think it's fixing a problem when there's really no problem to fix. Just my opinion though, the product works but isn't really a "must".
