Hadn't heard of this, but now I'm interested. Would love to not have to get a wrench out everytime for oil change.

Sounds like a good idea, except for if someone is pissed at you and they just drain all your oil, or if you clip something like a stick or rock and it smacks it open

It looks like they sell some plastic piece that will hold the ball valve closed.

Do they make a skid plate to cover the oil pan?

I have the earlier style on my truck. I love it. To change the oil, you install a 3/8" hose on the valve, stick it in a jug for your old oil, flick the lever (which has a safety detent to prevent it from getting hit by anything that would cause it to open accidently) and out comes the old oil. Neat, clean, and easy as pie!

I have the old style on my 02 Silverado since new and love it. I also had one on our 2011 Acadia that we traded in. Just was wondering if anyone had gotten this new style. It seems like a good idea, that way you can rotate it to point down or sideways, which ever way works best for your application.

Amazon sells it with the lock to keep it from being accidentally opened for $32.95 plus $4.64 shipping. The old style is $24.95 with free Prime shipping. I do like the idea of being able to set the direction of oil flow. Hmmm..

yeah, but it would be easier probably to cut a brake line.

I have used Fumoto valves since the 90's. Jeeps, pickups, semi trucks (almost 2 million miles), ag equipment, etc. I have done a lot of belly bumping off road and I have yet to have any damage to a Fumoto or a leak. That is all a bunch of paranoia. They don't just come open. The lever is spring tension loaded and has to pulled away from the valve and then turned 1/4 turn to open. You can even get a clip retainer to put on to prevent the lever from being pulled away from the valve.

And if someone is pissed and opens it, you will see a puddle under the vehicle. That is if you are doing what you should be doing and looking for such things (coolant or oil leaks, low tires, etc) as you walk towards your vehicle instead of having your mind on some out of body experience on Pluto.

I forgot to mention, though it should be obvious. Don't tell people who hate you, ex girlfriends, ex wives, etc that you have a Fumoto valve on the ride. Most people don't have them, so very few folks who have a motivation to be mischievous would even think to look for one.

I guess I'm just used to a wrench and it seems this valve would slow the oil flow some. If this was a weekly or more frequent chore I could see it being handy IMO. :happysad:

What I like about it is I can come back from a nice long drive on the interstate and change my oil as soon as I get home and pull it up on the ramps. Just flip the lever and let all that nice hot mixed up oil drain out and no burning of the hands.
