New style Fumoto valve

Is there a chance you can run over something on the road and the object is thrown up under the truck and knocks off the valve? I like the idea of having a valve to drain the oil, but am wondering if this could be a concern.

On the Silverado 5.3 the oil drain plug is located on the side of the pan so the valve would be sticking out towards the side and not down. I guess there still would be a chance, but not as bad if it were sticking straight down.

They come with a lock that goes over the lever to help prevent that

If the 5.3l has an aluminum pan like my 6.0l, you probably have just as much chance of something cracking a hole in the pan as hitting the valve.

Bummer, I had to purchased my plastic C clips separately.

That is true, but if these valves were sticking straight down from the oil pan I think they would be very prone to a chunk of ice or other road debris. With them sticking out sideways I believe there is a lesser chance. JMO

Ran them on one of several Cummins engines over the years, that design sticks straight down with no protection. Over a million miles and not one issue. I have one on my 6.0l right now...it has around 75k miles on it without a hick up (and I have hit road debris with this truck).

 

And these valves don't stick straight down in this application, you're grasping at reasons not to use one.

Just curious if anyone has purchased and installed the new F107SX valve and how do you like it.

This particular model looks like it would be handy to have, being you can direct the nipple in certain directions...hence it was made for drain holes that are recessed on the oil pan.

Although my drain plug is not recessed on my 5.3, I wanted to purchase this for its abilities however, I see there's an oil seal which is needed and usually seals will eventually need to be replaced or it'll start to leak. I feel the seal is the weak link in this model, and I'm not sure what size the seal is and how difficult or not it would be or not to find a replacement.

 

So, I went with the short nipple and for $5 purchased the hose kit...although in my experience with these valves I don't think I'll need the kit, just better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

 

Now if I was taking my truck off road on a weekly basis and hitting the trails and creeks where there's a lot of rocks ( like golf ball or baseball size) which are loose and could fly up or clip the valve, I would not purchase this just for the sake of something hitting it. Being that it would protrude a bit more than a drain plug, there is a greater chance of that happening, and also being that it is made of brass it is softer too.

It all depends on where you go and how you drive and how attentive you are to the surfaces...as for normal driving or even track racing...this is Great!

After many oil changes in my driveway on windy days with oil blowing all over the place, and tired of putting cardboard up to block the wind, i just ordered the Fumoto F107N, two extra gaskets for future needs if they arise and the safety clip for $35.70 shipped. Fumoto also has 15% off of accessories rite now as well. FYI, the link on page 2 of this thread that someone has, is a valve not made by Fumoto, so take your chances if you will on a cheap Chinese knockoff for less but I wouldn't recommend it lol! I'll post back once installed and used on my 2015 Silverado 5.3 .

I have the Fumoto F107N on my 5.3. Works great, and no issues with interference or the chance of it getting hit by something on the road. Wind isn't an issue when doing an oil change for me. I use a piece of 3/8" vinyl tubing and insert it straight into the container for used oil.

They need to build a filter where you can drain oil out of the bottom before you remove it so it doesn't make a mess under the truck

I just punch a hole in the bottom, or as in the filters I use (with the nut on the bottom) punch a hole in the edge and let it drain. I try to never get in a hurry when I change my oil... don't ask me why, LOL.

...maybe the beer is cold and the significant other isn't bugging you about something...just a guess
