New style Fumoto valve

They need to build a filter where you can drain oil out of the bottom before you remove it so it doesn't make a mess under the truck

received my 107sx and the quality seems very nice. Going to wait a little bit longer on the current oil before installing it. or maybe when it's not 16 degrees outside. lol

 

it came with the plastic lock to prevent it from opening.

I just punch a hole in the bottom, or as in the filters I use (with the nut on the bottom) punch a hole in the edge and let it drain. I try to never get in a hurry when I change my oil... don't ask me why, LOL.

With my luck, that would be the day I couldn't get the filter off!

While changing oil the other night I took some pics of my Fumoto F107N. I also have the clip for added safety and a cap that goes over the nipple. I've had it on for a couple years now and it's never shown any signs of leaking. I attach a short piece of hose and drain into a jug. Don't use an oil pan anymore.

 

The valve is pretty well protected with the engine crossmember just in front of it.

Is there any problem removing the oil filter with the drain stem under it or are you able to cant the filter to the side a little after spinning it off to remove it?

I've had some success with holding a bag under the filter while loosening it. Catches most of the oil but it can get a little hot. Gloves help with the heat.

No I haven't had any issues with the valve getting in the way. I just tilt the filter a little (doesn't take much).

Great write up and pictures @gone_fishing. I have wanted to add one of these to my old 08 Silverado and never did. The GMC is definitely getting one.

looking at the photos above, i think i'm going to luck out and have the spout on my 107sx point downwards. that will be a nice bonus. can't wait to get mine installed.

I don't have the SX mostly because I don't have a need for it on my 4.3L truck; drain plug is at the back of the pan, almost at the transmission. I went with a normal 107N without adapter -- really didn't see the need for one. Installed it on my last change; going to change the oil this weekend, so we'll see how it goes.

My wife's FJ Cruiser has a cartridge-type filter in an under-engine housing that allows you to do just that. Take a 3/8" socket to remove a lower cover, then insert a drain tool/ hose to let the remaining oil out, then take a unique wrench to the housing itself to get access to the filter. Wish to god my Sierra had something similar...the filter is really the only part of this process that's truly "messy" for me.

Finally got to change the oil and install my 107sx. Needed a 20MM socket to tighten it down. I can't wait for the next oil change to see how it does. I'm guessing it'll be a little slower to empty, but not having to mess with the drain plug will be an added benefit.
