First of all Thanks to pgamboa for the videos, responsive to emails, and quickly delivering the harnesses to my front door.

I am not knowledgeable enough to give any additional direction or feedback; but I would like to pass along what I would consider tips:

- Door lock/unlock connection cable: press down on the back of the white clip and push forward to release. It has a lip on the front so once you push forward you can move to the side to clear and release the cable.

- Harness clips: be sure to pay attention to were the wire clips come from. One came off my speaker and I decided to clip it to the door frame; figured out afterwards and corrected. That was the only one I did not recall were it came from. It clips right in the back of the speaker frame.

- Door trim: the black door trim around the window goes on first. I got in a hurry and put the door panel on and had to take off to put the trim on. Also, the black window trim is easier to put on if you work from the under the door frame (between the frame and window) first. I used a small screw driver to make sure my seals around the top of the window trim were flat and on top of the trim.

- DQS Mirror: You will need an extra nut and washer as they do not come with the mirrors. The mirror you are taking off as 3 nuts/washers; but the new mirror needs 4; hence your one short. I decided to take everything off then run to the hardware store; just wasted time.

- DQS Mirror Memory: I ran into an issue in that the memory would not stay for the mirrors. I would set the memory and then when the truck was restarted I lost the memory. My truck has an optional setting that pushes the seat back when you are getting out. I reset that setting and included the mirrors and it worked. However, I think the keys to the truck are coded to Memory 1 or 2 depending on the key fob you have in your hand at the time. Therefore, I set both seat memories to myself as well. All appears to function properly.

- DQS Mount: Both passenger and driver side mounts worked fine; however, the driver side top portion of the mirrors black base that sits against the truck did not sit flush. I uninstalled and reinstalled but looks like it is slightly warped at the top. Hopefully, if water gets in it will drain out the bottom. Of course you can not tell it is not flush unless you are looking for it.

- Door Panel: do not over tighten the door panel. I over tightened one of the screws on the bottom of the door panel and cracked it a little; no big deal, but be careful.

- The mirrors have: red turn signal on the mirror, memory top mirror w/reverse, manual bottom mirror, power folding, cargo light built into the mirror (love this feature) and forward facing amber light. The amber light does not flash with the blinker.

I am happy with the mirrors and appreciate the support of the forum and pgamboa. Do watch his video and read through the pages on this site dedicated to this topic and it is a fun/easy project.

Thanks

Hello,

I have a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT. I purchased a set of powerfold mirrors from a 2016 GMC Sierra. From what I have read so far, I cannot just swap them out and have just the turn signal working? I ask this because I did it to my wife's 2015 Yukon. With hers, I bought some Yukon Denali powerfold mirrors and when I switched them out, the turn signal did work.

Thanks

That is correct. If you install them, you’ll have power adjust and heat only. You can gain power fold by swapping out your switch for a power Folding switch.

No lighting will work without hardwiring, or swapping harnesses with Plug and Play Harness Set.

I know this thread is based on the 2014+ models but I have a question that may pertain to GMT900 trucks as well.

Is there a BCM flash required when going from a non-data bus door harness? My truck has the non Data Buss switches and harness so I need to replace both to upgrade to DL3's. I am finding conflicting information regarding whether this upgrade requires a BCM flash to be fully functional. If all I have to do is program the switches I am fine with that. However, I really do not want to get into programming the BCM with a new VIN and all that jazz. I will just hard wire a momentary switch to fold the mirrors rather than do a new VIN and BCM program. I have a tech2 so programming modules is not an issue. Any help or insight would be great!

@pgamboa,

Would you mind sending me a link to your source for connectors. I am considering building a harness for my mirrors but am having a hard time locating those connectors and pins.

Thanks,

Jimmie

Hey Jimmie,

I don't first hand knowledge around GMT900 Trucks but can share my observations that might be able to help. As for terminal sourcing, I get most of my terminals from Mouser.com. The hardest part is determining the right terminal for your application. There are many variables such as terminal type (silver, tin, gold, etc.) as well as wire sizes they accommodate. In some cases, the GMUpfitter Manual discloses the terminal part# and its an easy cross reference. In other cases, not so much. I have to search using the connector description then it becomes a fishing expedition, trial and error, and in a lot of cases, terminals that get thrown in the trash until the correct one is found.

Ok, on the 2014+, it has been determined that most trucks with the higher trims have a Seat Memory Module that contains a Serial Data Bus 3 Line. Some of the passenger side mirror circuits run through this line. In addition, the driver side left/right circuit and the power fold circuits run through this bus line. This is the reason we see the expected behavior when someones uses a higher trim level harness on a lower trim truck.

In your case, I would imagine the same or similar would occur. I haven't looked at any schematics for anything other than 2014+. If I can find some time, I can do some fishing on it.

In almost EVERY case where I've helped a member with this upgrade, there hasn't been a need of a BCM and/or Memory Module calibration/flash needed. I am still unsure on what these even do for the those trucks that GM says will need them. It has been determined that the lower trim level harnesses are pinned to support fold in/fold out without the need for interfacing the seat memory module. Since GM has SO many part variations, I've dialed this in to specific requirements needed to successfully perform this upgrade.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM and can this discussion offline.

Thanks!

1A Auto is out of stock of the 1AMRP01786 mirrors. I talked to a rep and he didn't see anything indicating when they might expect any to come back in stock. Does anyone have experience with 1A and this situation? I'm just curious as to what the past wait times have been.

I'm going to check AM Auto and see if I can find those mirrors on that site.

Haven’t heard of that situation... but since the influx of orders, these have been very popular.

For those keeping track at home, it appears the AM Auto part is Mirror Pair AM-2558332961. They have the same description and pictures. This one is also out of stock...

If only I got something out of it. :). It's alright. I'm all about helping/giving where I can. Now if only they would stock their inventory back up.

This was the most helpful information I've found. Phil is always helpful and had every one of my questions answered within the first hour of talking to him. Just received my harnesses and they work fantastic as promised. I wish all projects were this easy to tackle. He's obviously done his homework and is very knowledgeable. Highly suggest you do this if looking to upgrade to towing mirrors. Kudos Phil. Keep on rockin' the videos. Every one of them makes me want to tackle another project.

I'm in the process of upgrading the factory full featured power fold mirrors on my 2017 Sierra Denali to the full featured power fold tow mirrors.

I have to say that @pgamboa has been a massive help & I mean massive! The time, quality and effort he has put into his gear is incredible ! Looks and performs as good (if not better) than OEM !
