Wanted to post about another successful tow mirror upgrade with pgamboas harnesses and mods to the 1AAuto tow mirrors.  I know this thread is full of success stories, but I need to point out how much pgamboa went above and beyond for my install.  Issues with the mirrors, that had nothing to do with his mods or my install, but he took it upon himself to get them all resolved.  It took three sets, but eventually everything was taken care of and I have the mirrors and functions I wanted.  I would have quit and gone a different route much sooner than pgmboa.  He really stuck with it and got me all fixed up.  Kudos and thanks.

I am new to the forum and have been researching towing mirrors for my 2015 Chevy 2500HD LTZ gas since we purchased a LQ horse trailer.  I am planning on giving this truck to my daughter so she can trailer her horses around when she turns 16 (couple of months).  In 2015 and 2016 I asked a dealer if they could put towing mirrors on my truck and was told it would need a new harness and they didn't have them yet.  I have not contacted a dealer since and decided I need to do this myself, but after reading 100,s of posts, I am still confused as I have one of the earliest 2015,s made (feb/2014).

From reading pgamboa posts have a wealth of information and I think I understand most of it, but I hoping he or someone can let me know exactly what I will need to upgrade my DL3 to the 1AAuto mirrors 1AMRP01786 (if I even can).

2015 2500HD built in Feb/2014, LTZ, gas with options AY0, A45, DL3.  It does have the memory seat option.  I am pretty sure I will need at least the 2 wiring harnesses and I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. My truck was in the body shop for over 2 months getting hail damage repaired and I just got it back.  I have not bought any of the parts yet but will once I know what I am up against.  The main things that are important to me is the power fold, power adjust, and turn signals.  I really want to get towing mirrors on before my daughter get her license.  Thanks everyone.

Well, the good thing here is that I live in Dallas too :). PM me and can work something out. Copy/paste this info into a PM to me.

Thank you pgamboa......I will update the thread on how this works out.  When I bought this truck, the dealer told me it was one of the first 2015,s for the new model year and apparently, they did some changes later in the year.  Once I get the mirrors on this truck figured out, I have a 2017 GMC 1500 that I may put towing mirrors on and hopefully, it won't be as difficult.

Phil, been reading through the thread and done tons of searching to no definite avail.

I have a 15.5 GMC CC/SB SLE and have the DPN mirrors. I got a good deal on the DQS mirrors through a local dealer and have obtained the correct powerfold/adjust switch. Do I need to purchase the harnesses as well?

Hey there. If you currently have DPN Mirrors and have all the lighting circuits functional (Turn, Cargo, and Park Lamps), then you would be probably the ONLY case where you wouldn’t need a harness.

Are your DPN mirrors the newer style with all the lighting features present and operational?

Has anyone gone from DL8 to DQS on a 04/14 built, non AVF 2015 2500 diesel with K40 (exhaust brake) and no memory seat? Assuming I only install DQS mirrors and the driver side mirrow switch will I get powerfold to funtion as Im told they ARE pre wired for this? Most forums Ive read go from DL8 to DL3 or DPN to DQS. All GM dealers Ive spoken to tell me its not possible and blow me off but Ive learned not to believe everything they say since they also sold me DPNs assuring me they were powerfold. I'd like to be sure so I can get the correct DQS and door switch and hopefully prove my local dealer wrong.

I am currently doing this upgrade. I bought the aftermarket DQS like mirrors when I currently have DL8s on my 14' LT 1500

list of what you need

door harness from PGamboa

DQS mirrors

powerfold switch (there are 2 different choices, so check your current switch first)

and

if you check your body harness by the door (details in the first post) you will see if you need the added pins to the connector.

I bout these because they were cheaper than those because they are verified to be the exact same thing for a cheaper price. Or you can chase down the factory DQS mirrors.

hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. I verified that I DO need the RZY harness because I'm missing pins #9 and #11 on my body harness. What I am interested in most is the powerfold function for the meantime. From my understanding the rzy harness only adds circuits to the lighting functions. I wonder if the fact yours is a 1500 differs in application to mine aside from considering the exhaust brake and ambient sensor on passenger side. Does yours have memory seats? Mine does not have memory seats. Just want to confirm if buying dqs and powerfold switch will be enough to give me powerfold, power adjust and heat.

I know eventually I will need to install RZY jumper harness and additional door harnesses to get full light features.

Here is a brief section I copied from a bulleting or instructions from gm ".......This upgrade is ONLY for the models listed below, and is NOT recommended on 2015 models without RPO AVF or 2014 models, due to electrical differences in the fuse protection."

Then further down it states this "

Trucks built at Flint Assembly, 11th VIN position “F”

Note: DQS Camper Mirrors are NOT RECOMMENDED for upgrading NON-FLINT BUILT TRUCKS"

Thus confusing me more because my truck is a 2105 model without rpo AVF but WAS built in Flint, MI 04/14

Thanks for the reply, Phil.

I have all the new features of the newer tow mirrors. I'm thinking I may need the harness because everything works on the mirrors - lighting wise - but not the power fold and adjust features.

You are correct in that the RZY Harness ONLY adds the lighting circuits to the door jamb connector (body side).  The RZY has provisions to add the Cargo Lamp, Running Lamp, and Turn Signal.  In most cases, most trucks have the turn signal (pin 41), so the RZY will essentially add the Cargo and Running Lamp.  RZY has nothing to do with Power Fold.

On trucks WITHOUT Seat Memory, the power fold circuits on the mirror connector are on Pins 4 and 18.  These circuits come from the door panel harness (from the power fold switch).  It splits off and hits the driver side mirror, then to the door jamb, then over to the passenger side.

On trucks WITH Seat Memory, the power fold commands (from the power fold switch) hit the driver side mirror (same pins 4 and 18), BUT they don't go the passenger side this way.  With Seat Memory, the passenger side mirror adjust and mirror fold are done via a Serial Data Bus Circuit.

The reason why GM Says  'This upgrade is ONLY for the models listed below, and is NOT recommended on 2015 models without RPO AVF or 2014 models, due to electrical differences in the fuse protection." is because on all 2014 and 2015 without AVF RPO, these trucks will NOT have pins 9 and 11.  Not because of "Fuse Protection" but simply because the circuits are not present.  The other reason why it states "not recommended for non-flint built trucks" is because of the 4th hole needed for the extra stud.  That's all.

There have been NUMEROUS members that have completed this upgrade.  Out of the 350+ I've helped, ONLY 1 has had a problem with power fold.  The passenger side doesn't power fold, but the driver side does.  There may be an underlying issue we haven't found yet and still working it out.

If you PM me with you info, we can confirm things before you make a purchase and guide you down the right path.

So, you are saying that you've installed the DQS mirrors with the stock harnesses that worked for the stock DPN mirrors?  And they don't power fold?  I'm a little confused.  Maybe I'm missing more to this.

Thank you very much Phil. It all makes sense now. What all do you need me to PM? VIN?

Let’s start with a pic of your glove box RPO List. Then your year and trim. Let me know what you have know and what you want to upgrade to. This way, all the requirements are captured in the PM. I get tons of PMs, so they drown very quickly.

    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
