Disable automatic headlights and daytime running lights

Any reason I cannot add a switch into the wires that supply power to the upper/dim headlight bulbs and mount the switch in the dash?  That way I can switch them off when needed, deal with whatever buzzers and bells go off for the short time I need them off and have the truck in gear.  Flip switch back on and the hand wringers can have my truck the way they want it.

Sure, why not.

(Not sure why GM did this in the later trucks. My 01 and 04 have DRL, but the dash switches turn everything off)
