30 Month/80,000 Mile Total Cost of Ownership

Thought this might interest some. I've kept track of the expenses since I purchased this truck new in late 2014. For the depreciation, the TCO assumes I sold the truck today.

Overall I'm very happy with it, everything is holding up well except the side bolster on the driver's seat. And the frame isn't looking so good...

MSRP: $34,000. Purchase Price: $26,000 (note only depreciation from 26k is counted in TCO)

TCO to date:

Depreciation: $8,000

Comprehensive insurance: $2,940

Fuel: $12,392.50

9 Oil changes: $1,110

50,000 Mile Service: $800

8 Tires: $2,040.12

Front brake pads + Rotors: $550

7 Sets of Bosch Icon Wipers: $357

Front and Rear shocks: $1,109

Misc (Wheel balancing, alignments): $210

Total Cost of Ownership to Date: $29,508.62

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. Maybe I'm not changing my wipers often enough. On my 2011 they only need one change and that was at 100,000 miles. I was very impressed with the OEM quality.

I don't know why the hell I go through so many wipers! Seems they last 4-6 months. Bosch Icons too! A nice wiper

I'd wonder why too.

I just replaced my OEM wipers that came on the truck since September 2015 just because. I did pick up some Bosch icons. If they don't hold up like the OEM's I guess it'll be time to get some refills from the dealer.

Your getting ripped off on oil changes! $123 an oil change?

Posted

The oil changes are $95ish each, so something's not right there. Either the number of changes is wrong or the total price of the changes was added up wrong. Id have to go through the receipts again. Sorry for the misinformation!

My last oil change ran $99 including the labor, two 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 EP from Wally World, and Mobil 1 filter from AutoZone. Went to Wally World over weekend and they now stock Mobil 1 filter for $3.50 less than AutoZone. Wipers lasted for 18 months and replaced with Michelin Stealths the Icons were nearly twice as expensive so no thanks.

So you bought the oil and filter and paid someone to change it?

Holy smokes OP!

You pay $50 a set for Bosch Icons? Walmart, Amazon or even Advance Auto with their regular 20% coupon puts the wipers at $17 each

What shocks did you install for $1100?

You might want to price shop more than you have

Yes sir had a bunch of work that weekend and took it over to friend's shop. Otherwise I do it at the house over a couple of cold ones taking my sweet time.??

Very interesting, thanks for posting the information. Standard federal government reimbursement is 54.5 cents per mile so it would be $43,600.00 paid to you if you could recover all your miles driven from your employer or write off against your business etc. it looks like you are currently at about 37 cents per mile overall. your fuel mileage is pretty low around 13 14 mpg if fuel is a bit over 2 bucks in your area but I see that you have a snow plow attachment so you are probably in the great frozen north and plowing a bit. Wiper blades are easily destroyed if you use them without completely thawing out the windshield. In my experience a few swipes back and forth across a frozen and frosted windshield and they are trash no matter how much you pay for them....

Oh chit that reminds me I have to turn in my march mileage.....gotta go have a great day.

On the oil changes... I have 50k and I've spend 100ish dollars on oil changes. Taking advantage of free oil changes at GMC. And then changing it myself 3 times (the 100 dollars, 30 each time for full synthetic).

Your numbers seem really high across the board.
