I think this may have been listed before a while back, but if not, I thought this was worth reading:

Go to the 'chart' shown on the right side of the Web page http://newsroom.aaa.com/2016/07/aaa-not-gasoline-created-equal/
and click on "Fuel Quality Report" - or just click on the same link below.

Read the .pdf file that comes up.

Good info! I saved a fuel sending unit by adding a bottle of techron and running top tier for a couple of months.

I have been using BP gas because it is top tier gas. A friend of mine just got a tune on his 5.3. (2015) and the guy that did the tune told him not use BP gas. He said only to run marathon or Sunoco fuel. Any thoughts?

If you want fifteen different answers just ask fifteen different people.

he must have some personal issue with BP gas then, my thoughts are he doesn't make sense.

I use top tier gas - 89 octane. We all have our preferred "brands" often based on non-scientific rationale! I quit going to one supplier because my dog shakes nervously while I'm filling up at this particular gas station. I enjoy saying I prefer brand A because my dog doesn't like brand B. Maybe the guy who doesn't recommend BP gas has a dog too!!

I'm a tanker driver; deliver gas and diesel to gas stations for a living; been doing so for 9 years now.

It's all the same gas; exactly the same gas, all stored in the same holding tanks, the only difference is when you load branded gas, that brands additive is injected into the gas when loading. The additive is a detergent, so if you load BP branded it adds the BP detergent "invigorate" and will be marked as so on the bill of lading. But if you load BP unbranded you still get the exact same gas, from the same storage tanks, it just doesn't add the BP branded additive/detergent "invigorate"

Same for all other terminals, citgo, Sunoco, shell, ECT.

And all the terminals in my area are fed the exact same gas and diesel through the same pipe line that branches off to each individual terminal, to there storage tanks, but the gas is the same no matter what terminal your loading at. Most comes down the colonial pipeline, and some does come by barges.

It's not the gas that makes a difference. It's the additive package.

Costco for me. Cheap and top-tier. Best of both worlds. I'll get it at Get-go to if I have their .10 off promotion. I honestly cannot tell the difference between top-tier and non top-tier.

Agreed, that's what I'm saying, when you buy branded gas, all your paying extra for is the detergent package of that brand.

So who has the best detergent package, that's the question.

I've been told shell uses the MOST detergents in their premium fuel.

I fill up with BP or Shell as that's what is most available through my commute.

Top tier won't make a difference in mpg tank to tank over non-top tier, it's down the line that it makes a difference with less carbon buildup etc

So I have a question...most gas stations around here have 87-89-93

We have one very large chain of convenience stores (wawa) that sells 87-89-92.

How would they have 92 if they all have the same gas?

seriously curious, not questioning your statement
