DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN EXHAUST!

I have super 40s on my truck. It's not that loud. I get compliments all the time. Just driving around, it sounds nice and deep.

I'd put money on all the people complaining about loud exhaust being old guys. It's funny how old people generally hate everything but stock vehicles.

Great post! Yes, I'm an "old guy". Closing in on 70.

My Vette has Kooks LT 1-7/8 long tube headers and the loudest 3" exhaust available. It sounds like a freakin' drag car.

'14 Silverado has the loudest muffler that Flowmaster makes.

I guess I'm the exception to the "old guy" rule!

Well sir, it's good to hear you still want to rip it up! Lol

As far as using the search button/feature of the site... it is pretty broken, sometimes it shows 20 topics that talk about what u want and sometimes it shows 1. If you have seen this post before or have answered it before you can just just keep scrolling and not say anything at all.. sometimes people get new trucks or toys and are excited about them.. so let him talk about his exhaust mod. :) congrats on your cheap exhaust mod, corsa sounds amazing but you you gotta close your eyes when you write the check or swipe the card to buy it haha...

I'm probably an exception. At 34, I want my daily driven vehicle to be as quiet as possible, especially driving 2000 miles per month. I've got my 442 with true dials and Flowmaster 40s for when I want to turn heads (for being obnoxious, not impressive). I stopped daily-ing my '84 GMC because I couldn't take the road and wind noise anymore.

To each their own, but being loud is not impressive. It's a truck, and trucks are slow. The only thing worse than slow is loud and slow.

I fall somewhere on the middle - have a couple classic cars too with turbo mufflers on one, and Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow on the other. Your Silverado might be slow, but my 6.2L NHT is far from it - and being able to hear it shift and the sound still be mild with Flowmasters "quietest" performance muffler is a big plus in my book. The muffler is designed for trucks. Seeing better MPG's too - can't complain about that for a minimal investment. You have a lot to gain, doing that many miles a month.....

The 50 Series Big Block muffler is made for more than just big cubic inch engine applications. Its large case size with internal tuning chamber provides mileage and power gains along with maximum sound control for a quiet interior tone, even under heavy loads. Well suited to heavy duty vehicles such as full size trucks, SUV's, RVs, and tow vehicles. Constructed of 16 gauge aluminized steel and fully MIG welded for maximum durability.

  • Mild to stock exterior exhaust tone
  • Minimal interior resonance
  • Recommended for SUV/trucks/motorhomes/tow vehicles
  • Improved Horsepower, Torque and Engine Efficiency

I prefer "Dude", but with the white hair, I usually end up with "Sir".....

40 or so years from now I hope to be just like you!!

I had a 40 series flowmaster on my Av and there are some days I literally just can't stand driving my new truck with a stock exhaust, especially in the summer with the windows down hearing other people with their exhausts! Focusing on buying a house right now then it's back to truck mods :-) I'm just thankful to be in a truck like this, even if its stock af for now.

I'd argue argue that high 14s are still slow (my estimation), but concede that it's reasonably quick for a truck.

If the 50 series actually delivered increased fuel economy and was quiet, I'd be ok with it, and hypothetically should pay for itself inside of a year with only a 1 mpg average increase. However, in my experience, promises of increased fuel economy AND more power are snake oil, as the two are mutually exclusive. Freeing up the exhaust flow means more are out, which in turn means more air in, which means more fuel burned. I suppose if the fuel mix undergoes a more complete burn during the combustion process one may be able to achieve greater fuel efficiency by not having to put ones' foot as deep into the go-pedal, but few among us have right feet so carefully calibrated.

I've always found Flowmasters to drone, and according to many sources, including experienced drag racers, flowmasters actually flow horribly. The 40s on my Olds are obnoxious, with a home-made H-pipe, no cats or resonators.

Krusty installed Flowmaster 53553 on his 6.2 and says no drone or "V4 chop." I had Magnaflow 12909 installed on my 6.2 and say minimal drone and slight "V4 chop." The common factors in both installations were resonator was left on but the flapper valve was removed. Both these mufflers are nearly as large as the OE one but with improved flow. FWIW I stuck an LED flashlight into the OE unit and could barely see any light where Magnaflow is straight thru. My 2 cents is my truck is deeper sounding than stock and has a slightly louder idle. Based on this if someone is wanting a slightly louder exhaust with no drone these are good cost effective options. For a 5.3 the options are Flowmaster 53071 and Magnaflow 12589 or 14589 in polished stainless finish.

You're definitely right on a few things, flow masters do flow terribly. You most likely lose power with one. And it's totally true that any economy gains are negligible from everyday driving. But in theory an intake, exhaust, and tune increase efficiency so power is a byproduct.

Flowmaster darn sure flows better than OEM - LOL - Urban legend - my DIC is telling me otherwise on MPG - Never saw 17.0 in city before - and my ear is loving the tuned Flowmaster sound.

No way is a muffler delete straight pipe going to give a tuned sound - even with 3 cats, flapper and the resonator........

Raw Dog ...........

That is technically a topic for a completely different forum/website.

How is your muffler quest going?

Quiet, still not sure which one to go with.

OK haha excuse me for the confusion. Yes flowmaster is better than stock. Anything is better than that. But as far as performance mufflers and exhaust systems go, flowmaster is pretty weak. I know that doesn't sound much better but it's true. If you look at a flowmaster and a magnaflow for example it doesn't take a fluid dynamics engineer to see why the flowmaster is inferior. Now sound is a whole other can of worms...
