Windshield replacement

Unfortunately I caught a rock on the highway; cracked to the point now where the windshield needs to be replaced.

My truck is a 2017 LTZ, with the forward collision alert camera; camera facing out the windshield.

Does anyone know how much more involved it is to replace a windshield with the forward collision camera's?

Is the camera actually attached to the windshield? Does it come out with the windshield?

Is the anything inside the truck that has to be ripped apart to replace the windshield? Top center console?? Rear view mirror??

Does anyone recommend a nation wide company to do the replacement? Or should I go to the dealer for best results?

Should I insist on OEM GM glass? Or is something else better?

I'm probably worrying to much about this, but with my experience getting something fixed, something else gets damaged. Anything to look for?

Thanks you all for any input.

I'd also go with OEM - at least for front window. Aftermarket glass is not to OEM specs, so many will have slight distortions or waves.

Oem for me was $300+ out of pocket. I got a Pilkington for $0 and from research it seems to be the OEM manufacturer. In place of the GM logo is a Pilk logo that is the only difference. Had it 2 yrs and love it. No waves or distortions like garbage safelight shields.

The same goes for me, I opted for a free Pilkington. I've had zero issues with it, and the camera works the same.

Most definitely OEM with the options that you have. The glass will be specific for your truck, they will just reuse all of your existing components.

You might be able to file a claim with your insurance and not have to pay anything. It is not supposed to count against you so no increased premiums.

State Farm made me pay the difference between OEM and "replacement" glass that they will cover 100%.

I would go with OEM, and use Safelite. I have a a fleet of vehicles and have tried multiple ways, but on a brand new truck no doubt go with safelife and and OEM glass.

So, I'll definitely get OEM GM glass, that's what I figured was best, even if it costs me a little more out of my pocket.

But are you saying Safelite is a good company to do the install/replacement, do they do quality work? What's your experience with them?

Thanks

just go safe lite. All that's going to matter is the person that shows up at your door. They're huge with training and should be using top notch

glues, etc.

seriously man I went ocd though this on my last truck. spent too much time thinking about it, found a large company that does rv's too and those are huge, even watched the install, read a bazillion web articles, just stupid ocd.

windshield cracked again 2 years later. That time I took 2 minutes to call insurance, get it scheduled and was replaced the next day lol

I couldn't tell jack difference between any of them. But read the web and you'll find people say non OEM I can see a wave in the glass at 12:01 when the sun is from the east and 44% overcast. That said I'd pick OEM but probably made by some other company anyhow , but if it took a large portion of my day again to figure out exactly what that is, I'd say screw it just get something installed.

The dealerships in Southern Colorado use Safelite and Pilkington glass. Literally watched a Safelite van working on a new Silverado while having my oil changed in Colorado Springs.
