2017 Sierra vs silverado (styling)

The 2014/15 Sierra are the best looking Sierra's. Imo they ruined the front end with the 2016+. All minor changes but completely destroyed the flow. 2016+ Silverado's are better looking than the 2016+ Sierra's and the best looking Silverados yet. I always disliked the stacked headlights.

I guess everyone loves what they love which is what makes the world go round.

I personally thought the 14/15 look really dated & cheap. Like GM just slapped LED strips on the front end. The 16/17 looks really polished to me.

The new 18/19 trucks are going to look pretty cool I think !!

Word on the street is aluminum box(which I'm not sure about, more tech inside, hopefully panoramic sunroof option, and the tailgates look pretty cool !!! Refined retro !!

Chevy, I am a little biased. But truth be told, really like the looks of the new GMC Denali's. Powerhaulic's Mom's truck is a great example of how good they can look.

As someone else pointed out, the 2014/2015 GMC's are clear standouts, that's why I have one. That said, if I was buying today, it would be a much harder decision, the new Chevy front end looks slick as hell. So it's still a toss up, base your decision on the interior you prefer, that's where you drive it after all.

Tyler you are one sanctimonious individual. Maybe one day we will all be as wise as you.

And BTW, it's "wander" on to a dirt road, not "wonder."

You are right, thank quick typing and auto-correct for that one...

Nice word choice, how long did it take you to google that?

Either way now we know you were so offended because we described you to the T...

BTW, did you ever find those 4x4 emblems you were looking for on your truck? You know, just so everyone knows you have a 4wd down south :rollin:

I suppose I'll use this thread to ask what is with all the side boards?

Are you all 5'0" tall or 80 years old? These trucks are all an ants ass off the ground. Side boards/tubes/steps on a non lifted truck remind me of the gold chain Corvette oldies that just stick on chrome and accessories just to feel "custom".

My 2WD F-150 at work has side boards and I had to learn to step wide over them into the truck so as not to bang my ankles on them every time.

There, that should add some fuel to this silly subjective thread fire.

i've had 2 other GMC's besides this one.. they always did me right... then bought the ford when the kid was born,.. needed the back seat... kept it for 10 yrs... then went and got a 16... at the time, i was looking at a used platinum and king ranch of the ford... neighbor heard me , went out and bout a used 2013 king ranch... so f that... not being the same, my other two buddies have a dodge and a Chevy LT..... . when i hit the lot, the AT was the best looking truck on the lot.. that front end got me!!!.. and the bank trucks they buy the exec's here at my job are all LTZ... . .. Team GMC!

I bought a Chevy because the rebates were better but I really like the plastic trim on the GMC. I also like that the GMC letters are red instead of the gold bowtie. I get that's the corporate color, but gold is so tacky. I'm likely going to put the black logos on when I get back from my deployment. I also prefer the red interior accent and cluster lighting on the GMC. The front ends I go back and forth on and I like both.

I am taller than 5'0" and less than 80 yrs. old but have been adding "sideboards" since 1985. Trucks have always been my preferred daily driver but I discovered early-on that they can be difficult to access for some of my passengers. I am now at a stage where I rely on them myself and am thankful that I made it to this stage!

My wife is a solid 4'12". Side boards are required. Although when I do my level the stock chrome ones will be getting replaced with some Line-X'd NFab nerf bars.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm going to revive it since I was in a big debate between getting a used Sierra or a Silverado a few months ago. Actually a F-150 was in the mix also if I'm going to be honest..

2018 F-150 XLT CC:

Pro's - crew cab, 3.5 ecoboost was pretty quick

Con's - lackluster interior (tiny screen, cheap feeling dash, dials etc), halogen headlights/DRL's

2018 Sierra Elevation DC:

Pro's - HID's/LED DRL's, spray-in bedliner, exterior styling

Con's - lower trim interior (floor drive selector, mid-grade screen, basic non-leather steering wheel etc)

2018 Silverado LT DC:

Pro's - HID's/LED DRL's, exterior styling, LT trim interior (bigger 8" screen, leather wrapped steering wheel etc)

Con's - drop-in bedliner, no fog lights

Not a completely fair comparison (different trims levels, cab sizes), but those were my three best options that fit my budget after months and months of window shopping. Ultimately I went with the Silverado and couldn't be happier. Even though I would have been getting a crew cab with the Ford, I just couldn't deal with the borderline base model interior and halogen lighting. It was a close debate between the Sierra and Silverado. I think both trucks look pretty sharp on the exterior, but ultimately the better interior on the Chevy is what swayed me. I'm a big proponent of making sure you like the inside of your vehicle.. after all, you spend most of your time inside, not outside staring at the pretty exterior.

Granted looks are subjective to personal preference. personally i think that GM purposefully makes the Sierra look better than the silverado as another easy or common reason to upgrade to GMC.

GMC gets my vote all day.

I agree, think the 16-18 Denali's are awesome looking trucks.

But I think my Century was Chevy's best looking model to date.

    • I'm also waiting to see if they confirm Apple CarPlay, because I'm not interested in subscription fees just to use the hardware I already purchased.    In closeups it looks like it gets the Colorado/Canyon center screen based headlight controls which I despise. They also appear to lose all the hard switches for functions like seat heating and cooling, parking sensors, lane control, traction control, etc. which means they're all screen/menu based, so verdict is out on how well those will work with gloves or wet/dirty hands.  Admittedly they don't show the left knee area of the dash, but I don't see hard switches for locker control on the ZR2, and the "mode" switch appears to eliminate the rotary dial with a quick way to access tow/haul.  My 2021 has had multiple screen failures and at times the screen just locks up, goes black, or reboots while driving even after replacement, so loosing the ability to access many of these functions, especially lighting control would be pretty frustrating.   There aren't enough photos or detailed trim details other than one mention of "available microfiber trim" to confirm, but the use of microfiber on the seats and or center console is a deal killer for me.  Just because you drive a ZR2 or High Country, doesn't mean you don't work out of it, and that material is difficult at best to keep clean and looking decent.   Lexus and several other brands are using it on seats, dash, and door panels now, I assume as a cost and weight saving measure,  and it looks horrible 1-2 years into ownership.  I see what appears to be piano black on the doors and center console in some photos, which also has no place in ANY vehicle in my opinion because it mars and scratches too easily, especially for a truck.  Will be interesting to see what GMC comes out with when the Sierra is released as far as materials go.
    • Im a fan.  Simply moving the screen up helps the look of the interior.  I feel like GM dropped the ball on the current gen having the screen not at the same level as the top of the gauge cluster.  The GMCs look better with the vents above the screen to close that gap.
    • I hear you, its just not something one would even think of that the new oil in the container isn't filtered to a spec one would expect it to be.    As to a passenger vehicle theme and the maintenance requirement to meet to ensure a warranty is honored, these days with claims of life time transmission fluid on some models and the limited amount of oil changes that would bring one to the end of the factory warranty, that sells vehicles for those that like to hear "easy care maintenance free", but the manufacturer certainly knows different as to what that more than likely means for the longevity of some of the components if given that minimum spec maintenance. Then again I imagine there are a fair number of people that really don't care as long the vehicle gets them a certain number of years down the road because they are the type that want the next new thing, new and improved ... more bells and crap etc on the new one on the show room floor. Manufacturers have learned the phycological game to entice the customer out of their money !
    • Why soooooo many screens? Shall we just replace the windshield with a large plasma?!?!? Besides that I like the looks. And they added back the additional door cubbies,    No SS???
