AC Delco filters suck

13,500 miles, third oil change. Every time these crappy little filters either leak at the o ring, or won't come off when tightened enough to not leak. Oil filter land looks perfect, no scratches or mars, it's these shitty little filters. What are others using? Totally fed up with bull shit oil changes already on this truck, something has to change. Yeah, I already know you have used these filters for ever with no problem, don't even go there. They suck.

Umm sure man.... I've never seen a leaky delco filter and we do 20 changes a day at our work.

You got something else going on.

When I do my toys I use wix, amsoil, my GM under warranty at the dealership never had any problem with crappy little filters they use. The only filters I definitely wouldn't use is Fram.

As others said you have something else going on, are you sure the rubber o-ring from the other filter is not stuck to the base? I have seen this happen and leak like crazy. I have never seen a AC oil filter leak check and see if the other o-ring from the removed oil filter is stuck on the oil filter housing. Also rub some oil around the rubber gasket when putting on the new filter, it helps getting a proper seal on any type of filter you put on. And check if the new filter rubber gasket is properly inside the filter.

Which filter the blue or black version?

I always wipe off the filter land and inspect. No apparent flaws of blemishes. The o ring is not on the filter land. I tighten as tight as I can by hand, then one quarter turn more with wrench. The blue filters are not leaking an enormous amount, just drips down the side, still leaking though. The main reason I'm using these filters is you guys, I have read that the GM brand does great on GM. I have done thousands of oil changes on cars, trucks, bikes, 4 wheelers, lawn mowers, and have never had three consecutive leaks, never.

Rant over, I was pissed climbing out from under the truck three times in a row with filter issues. No offense intended, just will switch brands.

NEVER use a wrench to tighten an oil filter, NEVER. That's your problem, you are distorting the filter by over-tightening. Install till gasket contacts base plate, then +3/4 turn by hand.

Someone who has done 1,000's of oil changes should know to never use a wrench to install a oil filter. Not only can that distort the gasket, it can distort the filter assembly.

By all means try again and chose the 3500 and sort out that its the cab and box configuration you want and choose four wheel drive ( rather obvious to have a transfer case ) and to make sure the dually isn't chosen. I find or at least did a couple of years ago when I was sifting through the options that it would sometimes jump ahead after choosing the series of truck and in this case 3500 and skip some of the other initial configuration choices and have to watch the heading bar and sometimes back up by choosing the first in the series of option break downs. I think sometimes the computer will remember items that were last chosen and skip over the first part. Anyway go through it all and depending on the trim level chosen and I think the LT is one that may fall into that where the option of having the 4 high auto transfer case can be chosen, where as a High Country doesn't show that option as it just comes with the fancier ( not necessarily better though in terms of potential problems ) transfer case but for sure both transfer case choices are equipped with high and low range in the HD truck segment. Like Newdude said who works at a dealership, its the half tons that are the ones that will come with the single speed unless certain options or trim levels are chosen that add the two speed transfer case but as your looking at an HD, you don't have to worry about that hot mess.    One item that at least didn't show up and not sure if it does yet or not in the HD options on the manufactures pubic website is the upfitter in cab switch option if one is desiring that. Unfortunately its not wired in at the factory but the panel with the switches is on the dash but the wiring harness to be installed gets tossed under the rear seat to be installed by whomever after the fact to complete the installation.
    • Yesterday we brought home a 6yr  old Havanese dog from a nearby SPCA.  We've had her for 24 hours and we are delighted with how well she is adjusting to her new home.  It  was a huge decision to adopt a dog at this stage in our lives but we believe we made the right choice!   it was reported that her first 6 years were ones of neglect.  I think she's already realizing her life is going to get a whole lot better...  so is ours!
    • I thought I was building a HD 3500 srw, maybe I was lost.
    • No doubt, I definitely agree with you. However, considering the 6.2 and 3.0 have been catastrophically failing with very little miles, I figured I would put trouble free. I’m at 18,4xx and still not a single issue.
    • It’s never dry here but it gets hot. My 4 vehicles I keep at home drive an 18 mile loop. One 6 days a week. Two about 3 days each and one once a month. Only one goes on trips about 4 times a year 1000 to 2000 miles each time. One 26 years old gets driven once a month for 22 years. One 14 years old goes 6 days a week. The other two are recent at 2 and 4 years. All are performing normal no extra service other than that would be half of recommended or severe service in the maintenance manual. No extra water or steam out the exhaust or premature plug wear. I would consider an 18 mile loop would be enough. So apparently once a month at 18 miles for 22 years has kept the collector car running well. About 45 minutes a month.
