Looking at 6.2

Solid deals right now on 6.2 8 speeds. I love my avy, but I can cash in and get a new truck with the big boy motor. They have the 3.23 gears. Only issue is the premium gas, so 6.2 owners is it worth it? Im actually driving a chevy v6 lt cc 4x4 loaner (getting my autoride fixed at dealership), and I got to say the v6 is not near as bad as I thought it would be. I love all the storage and phone integration. Were due for a gas spike, so should I wait for the 2021? Weight loss will make a big difference, but will they still have 6.2? Im seeing around 40k for 6.2 cc 4wd slt. Almost too good to pass up...what would you 6.2 owners do?

Get it. I have no regrets the gas difference between the 5.3 and 6.2 isn't as bad as I thought it would be....and the difference between premium and 87 gas is 5 bucks per fill up so you get a powerful motor for not really much more cost of driving

Get it! Don't let the need for premium gas hold you back, you won't be disappointed.

There's a few questions going on with the OP. First if your concern is a gas spike in the near future, do you think gas wont be higher in 2021? Second, if the price difference in Premium concerns you and you like the power of the 4.3 loaner you have, why not comprimise and get the 5.3? Some people will tell you the difference is $5 per fillup, where i'm at Premium is 70 cents more than regular so that is more like <$14 a fill up and again if you are worried about gas shooting up, it will only get worse. The good thing is if you can tolerate the price difference a gallon between grades of fuel....do it, the mpg hit isn' t that bad seeing how big of a bump you get in HP and TQ. Some with the 6.2 are getting close if not equal mpgs as the 5.3.

If would get a 8.2 if I could hahahahaha

The 6.2 8 spd 3.23 gets excellent mpg for a 6000 lb brick shaped machine.

2021? I think it's 2019

Me personally I'd wait for next redesign, which is like to be around this time next year.

But as for the motor choice, 6.2 is indeed awesome. If it was sold on amazon, it would be a full 5 stars with 1000's of reviews.

I'm on my second one and I love it. If you like power and acceleration then it's the engine to have. If your the kind who pinches pennies and searches for the aboslute cheapest gas etc. then maybe it's not for you. I'm constantly surprised by this engine with it's power. I towed through the mountains and it not only did it tow well it would accelerate up the hills like they were flat. I had a 2011 6.2 and now my '15. The '15 is hands down a beast. My cousin has a egoturd Ford and it's no comparison.

With a tune it's close to the same stock 0-60 time as my 1998 z28 Camaro.

I seriously feel bad for people that have 5.3's on the forums. There are millions of people around the world that look at a '14+ 5.3 and dream of having it. It is indeed a powerful, long lasting, fuel efficient engine anybody in the general public would love to own.

On the forums it's a second rate slow poke lol.

I had a 14 and a 15 both with the 5.3 and 3.42's. Not a big fan of them. Always downshifting to be at the speed I wanted, was very annoying, especially towing. Now in a '15- 6.2 /8 speed/3.23 and I can tell you it is a night and day difference. Towing is a dream and a big difference. The downshift for picking up a little speed or passing is from 8-7 or 7-6 which is not a big rpm downshift it is smooth and easy on the motor. But to my surprise I get better gas mileage easily. It is easily 2-3 mpg better and I dont have to try like I did with the 5.3. I would never go back. The better fuel mileage pays for the premium in my eyes. The power if your stomping on it is a hot rod. It is fast as hell. Over 6000 lbs and is a rocket ship. I drive a Zo6 and I feel this is a very fast truck. But it drinks fuel if your flooring it. But I just got home from mostly highway driving at over 80 mph and I'm at 19.1 mpg. Crazy for a 6000 lb truck.

Thanks for the input guys. Reason I said 2021 is I never buy 1st year (or second). Im not really to worried about mpg as even the 6.2 does better than my gen IV 5.3. I really do like the space and visibility, but after going out to dinner with the family tonight, I missed my old truck. A lot is the ride but also the turning radius. Gonna throw the dice and see how the next gen comes or maybe just get a SC...

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
