emeryz28 Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 My wife currently drives a 2014 Caddy ATS and with a 4 and 1 year old, it is just too small. She enjoys driving my 2015 crew cab Silverado LTZ and feels more comfortable and safe, so driving the Yukon should be fine. Ideally she wanted an Escalade, but that price is just not feasible. So while we are still considering a Tahoe Premier, it looks like a 2017 Yukon SLT (loaded) or a lower level Denali is what we are going to settle with. So while I know the features and things to be mindful of are fairly similar to my 2015 Silverado LTZ, please school me on the things you love about your Yukon/Tahoe and what to look out for. I am shooting for a 5.3 6 speed as I know the downsides of the 8 speed in my truck thank you
seamus2154 Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 I have had the '14 Silverado LTZ crew, a '15 Sierra SLT crew, both 5.3 6 speeds. Then a '15 Denali XL. Had issues I found ridiculous on all of them. Especially the '15 Denali (first year truck). After considering a jump, I came to the conclusion there isn't much out there that compares for the money and cheap maintenance. The Escalade is just a bit much for me. So I am an idiot and sent the wrong message to GM for their past lousy vehicles.......and bought a '17 Denali XL. I have to say the '17 is improved. Ride is better, trans so far is perfect, apple car play, better seats, just slightly softer. I payed less than invoice and a good number on my '15 so I did it. It's alot nicer than the '15, even though they are the same. Get the Yukon the way you want. They have great deals right now, and 0% for 72 months. My advice don't buy a '15. BTW your wife will love it. It's like a living room on wheels. You will love it when you go with kids, wife, and luggage. I call it the school bus. The XL is huge. I am in south Florida so it's no issue for me, but if I lived in a city or close quarters place, I'd want a smaller suv. Good luck
emeryz28 Posted October 27, 2017 Author Posted October 27, 2017 thanks! I tried to sell her on a Tahoe Premier but she really wants a Denali, we will see!
Boardmember Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I read this with interest. Our kids are out of the house (undergrad and med school) but as we’re getting older, we’ve thought it time to trade the paid-for 2015 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium in for a Tahoe/Yukon. I’m not crazy about sone of the reliability issues I’ve had with my Sierra but we both love the ride in this platform. I need to find one I choose to afford...,
Boardmember Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Correction: I’m the only one getting old.
Luster Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 For me, just too many downsides to the Yukon Denali. Mostly the $10k price bump. I just bought this 2018 Yukon SLT Premium, at Robert Brogden GMC, in Olathe KS, for $11k below sticker! The main reason for buying this SUV as opposed to the Denali (other than price) is the 5.3L, bullet-proof, V8, which has been a long-standing staple of the Silverado/Sierra for many years and is clearly one of the most dependable engines every built. Reason 2: 6 speed automatic. Enough said. Reason 3: I don't really like the Denali grille, power steps, and 6.2L engine for this vehicle. And............. I saved 10 thousand bucks by buying the SLT. Last but not least. I Love this vehicle. Extremely comfortable, quiet, luxurious, hi-tech, with all the bells and whistles and gets excellent mileage. We traded in a 2015 Acadia Denali that had an overall fuel economy of 18mpg. With just a few hundred miles on the Yukon, it's getting 19.2 with the same driving conditions. Wife loves it too.
AgDoctor Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Nice SUV! Congrats!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Dollars to donuts the Yukon 5.3 is a great bargain. The SLT Premium is quite a value also. Thats a beautiful truck, good luck with it. Different strokes for different folks: I have already had two 5.3 LT motors in this platform. Hated them. Underpowered for this weight truck. The 6.2 was the sole reason I went for the Denali and it doesnt disappoint in any way. Power is fantastic and no downside actually better fuel mileage. Worth premium every tank to me. The 6 speed had to be the worst GM trans in both vehicles I have ever had. Terrible for towing, always downshifting for power. Hated it. Never knew what gear to be in and never upshifted under light throttle if needed. The LS 5.3 is bulletproof, deadpan reliable for 300K. The LT 5.3 is far from bulletproof and is not in the same league as the LS. They are very different motors. The Denali is a premium vehicle at a premium price and has plenty of things I could care less about. I ordered my 17 without the assist steps also. (had them on the 15, and had issues) I bought it for the 6.2/ 8 speed which is very fast, powerful, and great at towing . The 8 speed in my 15 sucked but was still better than any 6 speed. My new '17 8 speed is flawless. Literally drops one gear or two for upshifting with no drama like the 6 speed. I get 15.5 towing 5700 lbs and 21 mpg on the road trips 75-80 mph. That is worth every penny to me as another 5.3 was not going to happen for me and I am not a Ford or Dodge guy so the 6.2 kept me in GM.
emeryz28 Posted February 16, 2018 Author Posted February 16, 2018 we decided to hold off as some unexpected situations came up, but we are now back on the hunt. A family friend of ours got in a bad wreck with a small car and it was the last straw for my wife and her little sedan. Good news is we are off the Denali kick and it looks like a 2018 Tahoe is going to be the choice. We were over at Daytona last weekend and my wife sat in an RST Tahoe at the Chevy display and loved it. On a side note we were both very impressed with the new Traverse but after looking further the only Traverse we would want is the High Country and at that price we are within 5-8k of the Tahoe. appreciate the responses above, have a few more questions. What has been everyones experience with the wireless charging pad? I cannot seem to figure out what package or trim level denotes the digital gauges in the dash, opposed to the analog 4 on top? I have seen some headlight complaints, is this just on the lower level, or also on the intellibeam? I want to make sure we get a vehicle with the lane assist and forward collision alert, braking? opinions on how those work in real world situations. this is the one we both really like, only thing it is missing that we wanted was the wireless charging, which is no big deal. great price too https://www.fermanchevy.com/VehicleDetails/new-2018-Chevrolet-Tahoe-2WD_LT-Tampa-FL/3064695823
drentlaw1 Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Can't really help on the questions but I just bought my wife a 2015 Yukon SLT and loves it so far. We've had it for about a week so some time will tell on some things. We traded a 2011 Cadillac SRX for it. I drive a 2014 Silverado High Country with the 6.2 and 130k miles and runs great. I was really wanting to buy a Tahoe with the 6.2 but it was a little out of our budget for now. The Tahoe your looking at looks nice and is priced good in my opinion. Deals in Wyoming like that are hard to come by. They all want MSRP maybe talk them down a grand on new. My wife feels a lot safer driving the Yukon compared to the SRX. We have our first kid due in a week and it's a nice piece of mind knowing they will be in something safe and she's comfortable driving. Keep us updated! Seems like this portion of the fourm has died compared to the K2 Silverado Sierra one.

It did alot well and it was what it was. A front wheel drive 6 cylinder with mediocre gas mileage. Had it for 82k and it was showing its age. I never have that problem with the full size frame on GM trucks. You will love the RST. Wireless charging can be added, there are guys on youtube that added it. The ride, safety, fuel mileage, towing capability all make the RST a winner by comparison. On 2/16/2018 at 8:13 AM, emeryz28 said:

I took a look at your link and that's a first year gen 4 price. I bought my Tahoe in 2014 and the the final cost is just a couple of dollars difference and the truck in the link has a couple of more options than mine. So as for the deal, don't know if you can find that package lower. Packages were different when I bought mine because it was just LS, LT, and LTZ. I bought an LT and had it outfitted like the LTZ. The only things mine doesn't have is the Mag ride, power steps, and rear entertainment. The safety items you mentioned above are exceptional, lane assist alerts audible, visual, and physical. Forward collision comes up on the front windshield, I think it's called a heads-up display. The only braking I have is grade braking, in which the engine rpms elevate once you start downward on a grade. Similar to downshifting in a manual transmission vehicle.

Coxryan1 Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 I had a 2014 Tahoe ltz with every option loved it. Had more kids traded it in on a 2017 suburban lt Z71... No regrets. Both towed my 7000lb camper like champs. Never felt they were under powered by any means. I know you don't love in Ohio.... But they both are absolutely tanks in the snow lol.Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
