My 2017 5.3 felt rather doggish also until I got some miles on it but not any longer

I now have 50,000 on my 4.3 RCSB. I have no regrets that it isn't a 5.3. It will set the tires on the edge of howl on the on ramps.

A two words for you. Torque Management! Makes little difference how much power the motor can make strapped to the dyno. How much will it be allowed to deliver? And for those who preach tunes with less TM...increased wheel spin isn't forward motion.

So much for they don't require any break in.  Yea, they do.

I don't know what was wrong with the truck you tested but my buddies RC 5.3 feels almost like a performance car!

Both trucks were Regular Cab 2 wheel drives with 3.42 gearing so both felt pretty powerful which was no surprise. The performance difference not being a whole lot between the two engines was honestly the surprising part.If both vehicles were optioned exactly the same then there was no reason to not get the V8 but this wasnt our case and the V6 honestly did not feel like it was far behind

Not so much breaking in but adaptive learning

Fwiw The 6.2 with stock tune barely feels any faster than the 5.3

This is true. It will tune itself to your style of driving. I just came from an F-150 with the 5.4L. Same deal with it also. Put your foot in it fairly often and the PCM would "relearn" when to put the power to it. I'm finding this 5.3 puts out good power across the whole range, somewhat better than the Ford. As far as the 4.3 V6, I had a 1999 Sierra (not Gen V of course) that ran really well but always seemed to be missing a little grunt when you got in a hurry.

I had a 15 4.3, and now currently have a 17 5.3. When lease shopping I actually pursued the 4.3 as I liked it that much and it was completely adequate for my needs. I'm not saying I'm not happy with the 5.3 but the difference is subtle. Around town driving they really do feel about the same. The only time I can really tell a difference is if I'm passing going 70+ on the highway.

As far as gas mileage, and similar driving (fairly aggressive), there's easily a 2mpg difference in the v8.

I have had a few modified 4.3 engines in S10's and this new engine is light years ahead of them. This new one is snappy and gets an honest 17-18mpg in the city with V4 mode only coming on during coasting situations.Really loving it so far !

I picked-up my leftover 2016, 4WD, RCSB in January with 2-miles on odometer, 5.3 / 6-speed and basic towing package with 3.42 gears..

Up to about 800 miles, while trany was learning me it was a bit slugish, but from that point with the addition of now standard gas pedal shim kit,, truck is basiclly fast..

I currently have 8500 miles and had Leer topper install and its still fast...

Truck Build Sheet shows 3,087 gross weight and with addition of 195 Lbs topper, new Ko2 tires chances are I'm in the 3300 weight range. Will be curious to get actuals...

Average mileage is 19 combined with my best of 23.5 @ 65...

Unfortuneatly,, got my first 200 Lbs buck last Monday,, now at shop getting new hood, fenders, AC condensor and basics...

Not my version of hunting in Iowa..

Sounds like a killer machine but those curb weights sound really off and by a whole lot.I am staring at the GM build sheets and the RCSB V6 2WD I purchased is 4517lbs and the RCSB V8 4WD you picked up is 4936lbs which is a difference of 419lbs.Sadly a 3087lb curb weight is Carbon Fiber sports car territory these days. They just dont make them like they use to

Yea...that 3087 is not the curb weight by a long shot.  GVWR should be 6700lbs, curb weight in the 4500-4600lbs range.

Yeah pretty much the same truck, only a little weight difference, about the same weight as 2 silverback gorillas

I am imagining you being from Congo or somewhere exotic now.  I don't know I have heard of Silverback Gorilla as a unit of measurement before...

To the OP, I have only driven the 5.3 and 6.2 and there is difference, but not as much as I was expecting.  Upon further reading a friend's reports... a tune will unlock a lot of potential and make the difference very noticeable.

That's why I want to get trucks "actual" gross weight, since my Vehicle Build Sheet shows (Gross 3,087) for model "CK15703-2016 Silverado 1500 4WD Reg-Cab...
