Conversation mirror conversion.

My son picked me up from the airport in his Yukon XL and I was immediately drawn to the "conversation mirror" feature.  I think this would be a very useful modification for my Sierra and am wondering if anyone has attempted this install.  I see Ford offers a conversation mirror as a part swap for their version of an overhead sunglasses holder. It appears that the overhead compartments are similar between the SUV's and pickups and wondering if it is a simple matter of ordering a couple of parts.

Neither do I, however, this feature in the GM SUV's also provides storage for sunglasses!

This is the “who just threw their paw patrol toy at me” mirror...

Standard on all Yukon’s, I couldn’t find a part number in the 15 min I searched. Useful mirror to have though.

why doesn't this come standard on crew cabs? I would put this in if I could. Since I don't use the sunglasses holder.

 

I would call it: "Who is spraying their applesauce pouch on the back of my head" mirror.

Thanks for searching.  I'm going to visit my local dealer and make some inquiries.  There is one parts guy there who will go beyond the usual to help in such matters.  (Others... not so much!)

I am planning to go in for the last free oil change in the wife's vehicle this afternoon. I'll ask my parts department as well. I'm very curious about this.

Here's part numbers for two of the possible yukon overhead consoles. The parts guy said he couldn't tell if they had the mirror or not.

Need to search a VIN for one with a mirror to verify.

My parts person wasn't able to help any more than ^ this.  This request was a first for him and he was quite impressed with the idea.  He said he may do some more looking and let me know if he discovers anything new.  If you get a chance to try one, you will wonder why this isn't standard equipment on all vehicles with a back seat.

Thank you for this link. I tried to bid on this item before time ran out but it wouldn't accept a bid from Canada.  I tried contacting the seller but received an out-of-office reply.  For a reasonable price, I'd gamble to see if these sunglasses holders are interchangeable!  This switch certainly looks possible!

This is definitely an option but no comparison to the view offered by the shape and location of the conversation mirror.

IF by chance you’re not able to replicate this in your truck, I hope what I say next is helpful.

 

I have two awesome girls.  One in dental school and one a sophomore at Ole Miss.  We’ve historically had a variety of vehicles with this mirror and while it appears to be the best vehicle ap since air conditioning, I didn’t use it much at first and none at all later.

 

Kind of like that A pillar grab handle I bought and installed for my last truck.

Your comments are appreciated.  I now know this was/is a popular feature in mini-vans.  When my kids were young, these mirrors were not found in my vans or Suburbans.  I prefer the analogy of comparing conversation mirrors to the inclusion of cup holders.  There was a time when cup holders were an inexpensive frill. This was after air-conditioning became a popular albeit expensive option.  I had many years where a view to the back seat was seldom needed.  Grandchildren and small dogs have once again brought the need to have eyes in the back of my head.   BTW  The passage of time that has resurfaced the need for this mirror has also increased my need for my grab handle! ;-(
