HI All,

I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali & have issues at time with Apple Carplay.  Sometimes it connects just fine while other times is doesn't.  When having connection issues, the carplay icon on the home screen will usually be there, but doesn't do anything when you touch it.  When having issues, text or call notifications don't appear on the infotainment screen but it'll still play messages or make calls when you press the voice command button on the steering wheel.

Could this be an issue with the phone or the infotainment system? "Sometimes if I turn my phone off & restart it before getting into the truck carplay will work fine.  However, it's a  50/50 chance that it'll connect again the next time I try.

Suggestions???

I have had problems with mine as well. I have had mine to the dealer and they replaced the HMI module i think. I still have issues and it is frustrating. Same thing happens to me. Sometimes it connects fine and the next time its crap. Sure would be nice if they would come up with a system that works.

I’ve also experienced intermittent issues with CarPlay, both with my 6s and now with my X. I don’t know if the issue is with the infotainment system or Apple’s software. I haven’t asked the dealer about it as I’m sure they would blame it on the phone.

I have found I can usually fix the issue by removing the USB cord and plugging it back in.

2017 Silverado exact same issue. Dealer says just unplug the USB and plug back in and it will work. The issue is this only works 50% of the time. Maybe a software issue?

Same iPhone 6s connects all the time in my kids 2016 Silverado with car play.

2017 Yukon Denali and I have the same issue. 50/50 here too. I unplug it and clear the phone then plug in and it works fine. I do find if I am using and app on the phone then try to make a call it gets confused. Meaning if connected to the truck it doesnt like doing two things which unconnected is not an issue.

of course today it decided to work just fine & didn't give me any problems.  yesterday couldn't get it to connect to save my life.

My 2017 Silverado does this as well, sometimes the projection icon stays there even though the phone is plugged in, sometimes the Apple car play icon shows up but it doesn’t work (although I’ve found if you click the audio button, Home, and then the Apple CarPlay button it will usually work), or sometimes it likes to start playing my music through the phone speakers. Definitely has some issues.

I have the same issue.  Usually when the CarPlay icon is visible on the home screen I can press the GM navigation button and let that come up for a second, then press the home button to go back to the home screen and the CarPlay Icon button will work.

For this reason, it sounds like it's a GM problem to me.

I was having some intermittent issues now and then. (iphone 5s) It has been working great for the last few months though.

Not sure if the new cable I bought helped, or an iOS update helped?

I have had the same intermittent  issues with Apple Car Play connecting to my iPhone 8. I did find that a new cord seemed to help but still not 100% reliable. I have rented several cars and found Apple Car Play to work flawlessly in them. Does GM have a software update for myLink? I understand that such updates are supposed to pop up automatically when the truck is started but have never seen a notification.

Dump the iPhone and get an Android. I have had iPhones forany years (and my work phone is still an iPhone).  Apple used to "just work" but over the last several years the reliability has decreased at the same rate as their innovation.

Having the same problem with android auto works one day next day it doesnt use to shut truck off start it up and it would work now that doesnt work anymore.

I think it is a software/hardware problem. I had the same issue with my 17 Silverado. My new 18 LTZ doesn't have any connection problems. I use it every day as I travel a min of 4 hours a day in my truck

Hey all.

Anyone have any issues where when the phone is plugged in it charges, but Carplay does not come up at all? It has been spotty the last few months and now I don't have anything. Tried 5 different cables, All USB ports. Can't seem to find any solution or anyone with the same issue as myself.

    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it.
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.
