K2XX Door sill protection? Xpel, 3M, GM

What are y’all using to protect your door sills?

 

Mines already got some scuffs in the clear coat.

 

Want to protect before paint gets scratched.

I have XPEL on my Jaguar and it's fantastic, so I had the entire front of my truck done.  Bumper, grill surround, the front 1/3 of the hood and fenders, the A-Pillars, and above the windshield up to the sun roof.  I also had the door sills done.  Kinda pricey, but it's pretty awesome.

I have done the same to my Silverado as nominion mentioned above along with the rocker panels and headlights and I also think it's well worth the money as it stands up great protecting very well.

I use an Erosion Tape that we use on our aircraft to protect the nav light lenses. It works good and molds around the corners nicely and is easily removed if I need to replace it plus it comes in various widths. It is also quite thick which helps against gravel etc. It is made by 3M and you can get it from most aviation shops like Aircraft Spruce and Aviall. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/protectiveLeading.php

Did some quick measurements. I need about 4” wide x 26” length for each door sill. This would cover from the weather stripping down each curve to the edge of where the textured anti chip paint starts. Guessing you can’t put this over the anti chip paint since it’s textured?

I didn't have my rocker panels done because of the texture.  I doubt it will adhere correctly.

I use 3m antislip adhesive tape on mine...has held up for 130k miles with dragging work boots across it.

I think of this as protecting the protector.  Would it not work something like step pads on running boards and just replace when worn?  I imagine the sills can get pretty scuffed up depending on their use.  I generally use my sidestep for my first step and the floor liner as my second. When getting out, I use the sidestep first and the ground second.  I imagine the sill step concern is more for trucks without running boards.

I may craigs the running boards. Even with the running boards someone (not me ;-), well maybe once) has scuffed the door sill so will definitely try the 3m clear adhesive. Will see if it sticks to the stair step curves, if not at least it will cover the flat areas.

Should have plenty to do 28" on each door sill with some left over.

I use 3M and love it. Friends dog clawed the sill straight away. Fix the scratch and clear taped it. Been perfect since.

Hopefully the 4” wide strip will conform to the stair steps of the sill. AKA  from weatherstripping to just above textured bottom. Will see soon...

It will. Don't be in a rush but it conforms. I had my whole front of the truck done and then asked him to include doing the door sills. I learned the hard way in the past and never wait to do the protective film. Mine is as you said from bottom of weatherstrip over down the steps. Now I only yell at the kids and my wife not to step on my sill!!! Hate scratched up sills!!! LOL

I got some of the Xpel and it's a bit tricky to get it pre-cut just right to fit from weather stripping and "waterfall" down over both levels of the sill.....so I'll be removing it (hope that's not too hard!) and trying it again.

Now I get it!  I thought you were talking about the plastic sill piece but you're referring to the metal part of the door sill!  This thread makes more sense now!
