Red Line 5w30 & Fram Ultra out, sample taken, Red Line 0w40 and Fram Ultra in. Using up some old oil reserves.

Fram made some changes to their filter in this application. Old one was wired backed synthetic media made in USA, new one syn blend, hecho en Mexico. Overall the new one looks better as far as pleat spacing / build quality. Go figure.

M1 SuperCar 5w50 out and back in to use the rest up. Sample taken. Grumpy should appreciate how this oil is formulated. Lower detergents to maximize anti-wear tribofilm and HTHS of 4.4.

Unknown how much it’ll shear but I would expect a lot. We will find out soon.

Working off some old dead stock. Nothing to see here. No mad science. Just frugal with expensive resources. Stuff I was running in the Harleys that is many years old. Stored well and sealed.

UOA pulled, processed and received. Excellent report. TBN topped out. Total wear metals continue to decline. Two more gets me to 30K. I'll decide then on a 5K OCI. Looking at a Microfiber filter. Query in. Waiting on the reply.

You did do the CRC intake cleaner before the oil change, correct?

Yeah, I was just rattling off what I did stream of consciousness…not in order.

I-861434 RED SUBE FE Report.pdf

2025 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness 2.5L H4 naturally aspirated. Sube CVT AWD.

6/30/25
2025
5000 total miles
4000 miles on Valvoline 0w20 R&P Fram 7317 test 2 on data

test 1  OEM Idemitsu made Sube 0w16 factory sube OF
Oil in for sequence 3 Valvoline Advanced 0w16 AC 2507 F OF

Factory AF still in use.
Changed Front and Rear differentials from OEM 75w90

aft to Amsoil 75w85 ( thinner more stable  better!!! ) Front diff from OEM Sube MT XTRA to Amsoil 75w85.

Rear diff mag plug normal metal toothpaste.
Front metal toothpaste and 40um 1/4” “ “whisker wires”!!!!!!  EXPERTS CHIME IN

brinnelling wear rolling flat fine alloys to a thin wire??? Or worse? Did not sample as it would not show source in data. Too large.
Drivability with Amsoil is noticeably smoother by the woman who cares for me. MPG up with driveline changes.

CVT going to Amsoil progressively soon.

If front diff turns out to be an issue and Sube balks on warranty I will sue them and use Amsoil to assist me as I was once a forensic analyst to Amsoil corporate before I declined.

Polaris labs is horribly slow and analysts might as well be monkeys.

NOTE engine oil PQ particle quantifier testing. Cheap way to watch ferritic wear particles of any size. Lower # better. 9 frigging awesome. Stop spending $$ on particle counts that are mostly oil adds folks. Engine oil terrible candidates for particle counts. Use PQ instead for $6.90 from Amsoil and Nick. @Black02Silverado

Apologies for mark up on PDF hands and arms useless. Dictation only way I can communicate now.

Did you find the source of the silicon (dust) getting into the oil? Would be just as a high or higher a level of concern to me as the metal found in the front diff.

It’s the ball busting strong RTV assembly silicates used in gaskets and bonding agents.

Why I mentioned these ****ing cookie cutter lab analysts suck. They don’t know what is in each manufacturers engines.

Coloring the Silicon RED is stupid and scares the consumer.

Why I had a 40 year successful business interpreting data.

Customboss, the reason UOA’s  are taking longer now in my opinion is because Blackstone went up on their pricing and now Oil Analyzer’s has a better price and they are getting a ton more customers. Plus with the better price Oil Analizer’s also includes a TBN where Blackstone did not include that.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
