Man, I'm with you on that squashed crossover pipe! I mentioned replacing it with a true round section and got SO MUCH HATE in another forum here. The first time I saw that squashed pipe I thought it was a joke. Post up your findings when you get around to it.

Probably because everyone thinks if the OEM does it then it has to be the right thing to do.  I plan to have an oval fabricated properly or like you said put a round tube in but lower it a bit away from the trans pan and wrap it with header wrap to hold in the heat.  Cost always overrides quality in mass production.  Most folks don't care and don't know any better.

It’s been tested through and through,  showed no loss what so ever. Do a search was a very detailed thread about it.
conclusion is your wasting your money.

Tested with what, a computer simulation, a flow machine, a chassis dyno, someone's accelerator pedal feel.  The major difference between custom builds and OEM builds is that most of us will spend money to do it correctly.  When I cut mine off I will measure the squashed tube and calculate the volume and CFM and compare it to the round tube.  This is simply for my personal satisfaction.

Just swap the muffler. Waste of money getting a cat-back in my opinion. Cut out the flappers and replace muffler. It already has 3.5" pipe split to duals. Catback is just basically replacing good pipe.

Does Borla offer just the muffler that will fit?

Im leaning towords the S series sound.

If I can get just the muffler....Done and done!

Yes, Any exhaust shop will be able to fit just the muffler. Cut out the flappers and weld in the new muffler, they will have to fab a little extra pipe due to shorter muffler.

These trucks come with larger diameter pipe  which is free flowing unlike from years past where more benefits were had from full cat back system. The restriction is in the muffler and flapper valves and is where the gains will be had.

Dual Borla for sierra with oem side exit?

Unfortunately, we do not have a split rear system for the trucks with the side exit from factory. Sorry about that.

Here's our video for the 5.3L systems.

Hey Ian,

Love the sound of the S-Type. I have a 2020 5.3L Silverado Custom Trail Boss. Would the " Silverado/ Sierra 1500 2019 Cat-Back™ Exhaust S-Type part # 140770CF " fit on the 2020 models without any other modifications? I didn't see anything on the website about 2020 models. Thanks!

Hi Andrew. Yes, the systems do carry over to the 2020 model year and would not require any modifications to install. We will be updating it to show that. If you do plan to purchase a system, we recommend ordering from our distributors as they will have the better deal with free shipping in the U.S.

I just installed the S type this morning on my 2020 AT4 6.2. I did it all in my garage without jacking it. I only needed to cut the factory exhaust right behind the muffler. The new system went in very easily.

Overall. Super easy job and only took 2 hours with no assistance. I love the sound and am very happy I got the truck without the factory performance exhaust and just purchased it myself.

Ian, if I wanted the S-type sound with only a muffler swap what would I buy?

This is for a 2020 AT4 truck with the 6.2.

Wanted to share, as I had a hard time finding comparisons for the new 2019/2020 Silverados.  I was going back and fourth between touring and s-type, leaning more towards the touring, until I listened to the videos in my truck, with its sound system.  Computer speakers and cell phone speakers just don't do it justice.... need to get those bass tones.  Super glad I went with the s-type, it's loudest at a could start, low/soft growl with driving in lower gears around town/in neighborhood, at highway speeds you can't really tell it's there, until you press on the gas to accelerate or pass someone.  I'm in my late 30's and didn't want to go all high school on the exhaust, but super happy I went with the s-type the deep tones are nice and rich, and should really mellow out over time, and it's not obnoxiously loud.  And absolutely zero drone at highway speeds.

For it’s worth I put a quad tip Borla S Type on my 2019 6.2 liter Chevy Silverado and I absolutely love it.  I had the weakest model on my 17 Chevy and it just wasn’t enough when your spending that kind of money.  I tried posting a video of sound and look but it says file is too big.  If anybody wants to see and hear it email me at [email protected] and I’ll send the video right over
