Dealer Offered Paint Protection

I've spent a fair amount of time reading these threads as I've contemplated my first truck purchase. 

 

The threads showcasing the various trucks of the members of this forum have been great... and they show the dedication and time put into keeping them looking good.

With that ceramic applied on black paint... is waxing not required and only soft wash to maintain? ... or is the ongoing upkeep process after the ceramic you had done specific for it?

Oh dear lord. I have never owned a black vehicle but I had two trucks in dark blue. Every bit as bad as black. It was so traumatizing, I did nothing but white for 7 years.

I have graphite metallic now, and being in the gray family makes it pretty easy.

Anything the dealer offers is going to be grievously overpriced and inferior to what is available elsewhere.

My Silver 2018 is so much easier to take care of . It looks good even when its a little dirty and looks great when it's clean. I kind of regret getting black on my other 2018 but it was the truck I was looking for (crew cab 6.5' bed with most options you could get on an LT) .

I have a black silverado and had it ceramic coated as soon as it left the showroom.  I drove it to a local detailer who did a full paint corrections and ceramic coat with GTechniq Crystam Serum Ultra the day I picked it up from the dealer.  It comes with a 9 year warranty.  The upkeep is super easy.  NO wax should be applied on top.  You need to use car wash soap that is pH neutral and microfiber towels.  Even if I go weeks between washing the water still beads up on the paint.

For that price go to an actual detailing shop. I'd never purchase services from dealers because its ususally overpriced and installed unprofessionally using the cheapest of products haha. Exaggeration of course but you get the point.

Pretty much my experience same product mine is 2 yrs  old now no wax ever but as you see water repel diminish time to get it topcoated or do your self 

some ceramic coatings tell you so tough you won’t get swirl marks that’s BS

as said wash with mild soap and use microfiber towels and it won’t swirl 

never go in a auto wash that uses brushes ceramic won’t protect from swirls they cause 

I do go in brushless washes at times so far has not been a problem but they use harsh soaps 

mine looks great after 2 yrs no swirls beads up I use a good  detailer once in  awhile

I use to sell the stuff when I was in sales, Its way over priced and generally not applied properly. However; it is convenient to have, tell them you want it tossed in on the deal, if it ain't free I would pass. 

Finance and Sales person make a little money on the sale usually. My 2 cents

Thank you ALL for the insight on upkeep after correcting and coating a vehicle right after purchase via professional detailer.

 

The responses were as I suspected. With no metallic in the Onyx Black paint...my concerns were swirls... especially when the sun hits them.

 

THAT is outright painful to take in. 

 

Still debating it vs going with silver metallic... but have had a silver SUV for years. The other contender is White Frost.

There are ZERO swirls in my paint after correction and coating.  It came out truly amazing.
