I recently purchased a 2016 Silverado 3500 with the 6.6l duramax. The engine has 180,000km and today while driving I recieved a message on the dic saying service diesel exhaust fluid 120km until 104km/hr top speed. I checked the DEF fluid it is full to the top. As I drive the truck the dic starts to count down the km until 104km/hr  max speed. I tried disconnecting both batteries thinking it isn't sensing the def tank being full? No luck. The engine light is also on with a u029e, u029e (ps) and u029e(pd) code. Has anyone had this issue before? TIA.

I had an issue with a 2012 Duramax in my Sierra and it was doing the same thing with a full tank of d e f. I stopped at a GMC dealer and they initiated a regeneration of the d e f. They said that the injector of the fluid was not performing properly, and running the Regeneration apparently cleaned it. I'm not sure if this is your same situation. Worth a shot. When the dealer forced the Regeneration they ran the vehicle at 2500 RPMs for 20 minutes. Seemed odd and excessive to me however once we got back on our road trip it never had the problem again.

Good luck with your situation keep us posted with what you find. As you may have a different problem related to the def that would help in the future. I have a 2015 Duramax now and only had the def heater go bad which think God was under warranty and it also caused me some aggravation until we got it figured out.

U- codes are communication codes..  The message on the DIC won't clear until the system passes it's self testing..

There should be P- codes stored.

Your only option is to get it to a dealer or shop that works on them..

It could be poor fuel or DEF.

Could be a sensor, DEF injector,  hydrocarbon injector..

Once the DIC has a message,  it's locked until the system passes it's testing.

At one point I had a p11dc fault code, I cleared the code and it has not come back. After talking to a local shop they recommend changing the #2 noX sensor. I guess I will try that and see what happens? I dont really wanna take it to the dealer and get bent over

You can throw parts at it.. I would suggest getting a proper diagnosis first... It's your ride your money.
