Gotcha thanks, my dealer says when he runs the vin it doesn’t come up.

That's because he's using the VIN.  It will only show factory optioned replacement parts that way.

He/she would have to go to the block heater illustration for L3B by your model year and look it up without the VIN to find them.

Don't own one but a little research tells me that in addition to DOHC the 2.7 turbo has 4 valves per cylinder so yeah, as many lifters as a pushrod V-8.

But they don't have lifters like a pushrod engine.  They are stationary hydraulic lash adjusters.  No active ones at all.  The camshaft is the active component.

Found this thread after cruising google for more info on reliability and fuel mileage for the 2.7T

I'm seriously considering a Colorado ZR2 or Trail Boss for my next vehicle and after reading through 890 posts, I can say that the biggest complaints have come from people that haven't driven or don't even own a pickup with this engine.

Normally bad experiences with a product are the first and loudest voices.

I bought a 2021 Titan Pro4X last year, and loved it........except for the fuel mileage.

I sold the Titan for a nice profit and bought a Hyundai Santa Cruz (with the 2.5T) to improve mileage.  I've averaged 22.3 over the first 5000 miles but miss having the ability to go further off the beaten path.  So the Colorado ZR2 will be my next target unless the price is increased more (or less payload) than expected for 2023.

I have a couple questions.

1.  The fuel dilution issue that @customboss had early on....... do you think that had anything to do with a fuel issue from extended idling or possibly from cold weather?

2.  Has anyone noticed any issue from carbon or oil vapors in the intake/turbo?  I haven't seen much info about a catch can setup for these motors.

Thanks for all the great info in here.  I appreciate being able to read through multiple oil analysis reports along with seeing a decent sample size of owners with real world feedback.

People that don’t like it are old school. I’ll take it all day over the 5.3 in the Silverado.

1) fuel dilution is a design issue for any DI engine. I corrected it by using Amsoil, better fuels and changing the air filter early based on FTIR and GC fuels data. Running E15 nearly exclusively and tail pipe interior is eat off it clean. No carbon.
Running 87-89 octane or higher than 10% ethanol seems to allow this engine design to burn cleaner.

2) I used a Qt of oil during the 7000+ miles on Amsoil but we had a death in family and I had to drive hard for 3500 miles. Oil analysis shows no soot or carbon deposits.

Support the site sponsor Synthetic Advantage ISO certified oil analysis so there is more data here to guide folks with whatever they decide to run for fuels and lubes.

My engine doesn’t consume any oil  nor does it smell like gas when I change it but an oil test would be more telling lol. The Titan is a direct injection engine too. I have a 2018 Titan as well as my 2022 trailboss refresh. My Titan gets pretty darn good mpg’s as long as it’s not stop and go. I do change my oil at 3500 miles to side step all that though.

@Texcl2 I ran a catch can on my Titan and had to empty it every 1500-2000 miles.  0w-20 synthetic was changed every 4000 miles since I am always meticulous about oil changes.  I learned as a young man what could happen to nice vehicle, when it isn't taken care of.  Spending a summer at a Walmart tire and lube was an eye opening experience in more ways than one.

MPG's with the 5.6 endurance were below average at best, and terrible (15-16) some of the time.  Even babying it, the best I ever got was 18.2 mpg.  Almost every vehicle I have ever owned would meet or exceed the EPA highway rating..........at least once in a while.

I am very hopeful that the 2023 Colorado ZR2 will be at least as efficient as a Silverado with the 2.7 and scratch my off road itch.

Royal purple got rid of all my fuel dilution problems. It even got me a 2.5+ mpg improvement and fixed my radio static issues; it may have impacted my ride improvement (but will need an oil analysis first to verify). It is amazing what a good quality oil can do and only costs me 4x as much as other leading oil brands...

what a combo to put together the 2.7 h.o. in the zr2, I typically won't actually go places where 4lo and lockers are required, I tend to be on foot at that point, so if you won't use those things either and keep it smart with forestry roads, hunting/fishing, game recovery etc. then the Silverado's extra space, super quiet and awesome ride is sure winning me back from the mid-size to full-size segment...that zr2 would be sweet on some 255 80r17's and likely every bit as efficient as it's bigger brother on economy, the colorado/canyon lineup just got so much more appealing now with one of the best 21st century motors in it, sure wish they would bring back manuals though, I'd be in heaven if mine had a 6 spd without rev hang or hydraulic clutch

Funny Tyler.   Seriously though, show us your oil analysis data with GC fuels readings using 4 different engine oils.

I'm not promoting Amsoil but if you want EVOLVE Lubricants    https://evolvelube.com/product-info/  level quality for half the price and free shipping Amsoil Signature Series is on it now.  Ask me how I know....

Amsoil OE is even more advanced chemistry than RP and same GRP III base stocks.  RP's key to success was magnesium sulfide,  EVERY lower SAPS add pack has been incorporated with that same chemistry of mag sulfonate  to reduce low speed pre-ignition.

Sadly RP is a marketing chemistry now since Calumet bought them out ....works well for a short while just like Mobil 1.  Both sold to lowest bidder at Walmart.

Chemistry matters and sometimes the brands chemistry we never thought of can make a big difference in operation of our expensive trucks.

Speaking of leading brands do you know what the majority base oil that is common to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and Dexos D AcDelco or Mobil1 ESP ???     Shell made GTL natural gas to hydrocarbon lubricant, amazing to see Exxon Mobil buy a Shell made GRP III+  for that application when you can get Amsoil Diesel Series 0w20 or 5w30 that contain very exotic soyate based bio synthetics at significantly less cost.

Guarantee you that catch can was removing majority gasoline.  I submit a person stop the fuels dilute best they can FIRST before adding a catch can.  Grumpy Bear the resident expert on PCV,CCV, and EGR blow-by issues.

Free flowing clean air filter, proper tune including making sure coils and plugs and boots or wires are optimized, then keeping injectors clean with best fuels you can use, a tailored engine oil to that engine design for optimum ring and valve guide seal will go a long way to dropping off half of thedesign  overfueling going on for emissions needs.

Heard my name being used in vain. 🤣

After seeing my last labs I'm more convinced now than ever this dilution issue is less GDI and more silly design. If I can get 0.2% then it isn't about spray patterns or even fuel mapping but a great deal to do with  the universal stupidity of putting the HPFP inside or given it access to the oil side of the motor. They leak given enough miles. Right into the pan.

I changed everything but the kitchen sink and happy to have done so in hindsight with least likely to most likely. Gave a pretty fair evaluation of the amount each component contributes to the whole. Everything matters. Even the EVAP system.

Not sure why the universal answer has been cam driving these pumps from the internals but......

I’m honestly not a fan DI either, hopefully they get all this sorted out someday. Until then I’ll stick to changing  my DI vehicles oil at 3-4K miles instead of my normal 5k.

I can tell you from experience that IF it is leaking bad enough the viscosity cut will make 3-4K a really bad idea. I was changing every 1500 to 2000 and loosing one full SAE grade of viscosity.
