Just crossed the 500 mile mark on the way home from work last night (and I picked it up last Saturday... yeesh!)

 

Aside from it riding like an ox cart (I have 22’s, so I expected it) and the 8 speed being the relative garbage that it is, I am in love. Not a single complaint about the engine.

I disagree, the 3.6 is a great motor... I see no major advantages to these tiny motors to justify their massive downsides...

 

If anything the 3.6 would be more more appropriate in the T1 trucks than the 4 cyl

#5 Sounds like you're driving a Honda Accord...

#6 If you're worried about fuel economy Gm makes some great crossovers and cars, the drive to squeeze an MPG or two out of these trucks is taking away from the overall driving experience, increasing the likely hood of issues and driving up the cost of trucks...  I'd rather pay less for the truck and buy a few more gallons of fuel a year than deal with all this AFM, DFM, Missing Cylinders replaced by turbo's and 10 gear transmission crap..

 

Caveat, I'm pretty old school....

Maybe GMs 4cyl is noisy, Toyota and Honda’s are not. Whoosh is what I hear.

I've had honda's, mazda's ford's and now a 2.0T chevy in my wifes equinox and don't get me wrong they sound okay in a car but, just weird in a big ole truck.. I'd still prefer a 3.6L V6 in the Equinox like the last gen had but, the 2.0T gets the job done once the brief lag has passed... Not a deep menacing growl like a V6 or V8 though... Certainly not something to highlight IMO...

Yeah i'm not trying to trash people for buying 4 cyl's I guess I'm just saying if I could I'd have a V6 or V8 in everything I own and no Turbo's... I don't like the lag and I appreciate the smooth power delivery of a larger motor... Unfortunately 4 cyl's with turbos are in style now... I would have liked to get an Acadia instead of the Equinox we just bought so I could have had a 3.6L V6 but, that wasn't in the budget this time around... I'm surprised how much I like my wife's 2018 Equinox Premier but, I still think my '16 SIlverado is the most comfortable vehicle I've owned...

I bought my Toyota for the non turbo 4cyl, 6 speed auto instead of cvt, dials instead of touch screen and the end of model run for 10K off.

How many miles have you got under your belt behind the wheel of a Silverado with the 2.7 so far? I’m curious when I’m going to start experiencing my turbo lag.

I own a 2.0T Equinox and had a 1.5T Malibu and I've driven quite a few other boosted cars & trucks.. The only way to avoid that lag is to run twin turbo's like Ford does on the 3.5 Ego Boost... I'm sure it's not as noticeable on flat land or unloaded but, throw 1500# in the bed or 9k # on a trailer behind it and you're going to notice the singular turbo lag... I'm not saying it's a total POS it's just kinda like a boys toy vs. a mans tool... If your just playing around with your truck the 4 banger may do the trick but, if you need a legit tool, it won't be up for the job... They are perfectly sufficient in cars and lots of crossovers but, I think that they will be a short lived MPG gimmick in full size trucks and you'll see a V6 take it's place... The 3.6 V6 would probably get just about the same MPG without all the inherent short comings of an I4 in a truck that seems to get bigger with each generation...

Yeah I liked the bigger I4's instead of the smaller turbo ones... We had a 2014 Mazda 6 with a 2.5L I4 and that thing got after it with a 6 speed auto it was fun to drive... The 1.5L Turbo Malibu that took it's place in our garage had very similar HP numbers but, the turbo lag made it kind of a dog... Although it was a really nice car compared to the Mazda 6...

Ah ok. So you haven’t driven one. 

 

Point made. I’ve got 2 other turbos sitting in my garage - one of which is known for its lag.  Twin turbo is not the only solution to lag - dual volute is working quite well with this engine. Again, I’ve driven it, I’m not going on outdated ideas here. 

 

Had the boat behind it earlier actually, bringing it home for some fun tomorrow.  Not a bit different than going down the road unloaded. The boys at TFL didn’t have any noticeable lag when running fully loaded either. It’s a pretty legit tool considering it pulled the Ike at its limit in the same time that the 6.2 did at its limit. Sounds pretty well matched to the truck to me. 

 

The 3.6 sounds like garbage and pulls like garbage. It’s nowhere near the same class as this... I’ve owned one of them as well.

To each their own man, you'll not see a 4 cyl full size truck in my garage... 4 cyl turbo's are 4 cyl turbo's some do a better job of hiding it but, even with a lot of lipstick a pig is still a pig... Full size trucks ought to be powered by V8 motors in my book but, hey you voted with your dollars and rolled the dice on the experimental power plant.. I hope you continue to be happy with it... FWIW I owned a '17 Colorado with a 3.6 and that thing scooted...

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
