First oil change

So I did an oil change for the first time at the house. Got some M1 full synthetic 0w-20 for my 5.3 V8. Opened the old oil filter and it looked in decent shape. No metal particles to speak of. Oil was really dark tho.

I was thinking the old way when you had to flush out the oil that came from the factory as it is usually a break-in oil. I guess I was wrong

Nothing wrong with changing it early, oil is cheap, engines are expensive

That is what I thought too. 50 dollars worth of oil and filter and I got to spend few hours on the creeper checking out my truck. I call that a decent weekend ending. Cheers

Just because your engine oil is no longer that fresh amber color doesn't mean that it needs to be changed. Most modern motor oils are designed to clean your engine so the dark color simply means that the engine oil is doing its job while protecting and lubricating your engine.

I changed mine at 1,400 miles. Well, I had the dealer change it technically. Always have, always will. I'm old-school in that way I guess.

Sounds like you are starting off on the right foot and taking care of your truck.  Early oil changes at the beginning is one thing that has several opinions on.  I'm one to agree on early oil changes at the start and then spread it out from there on.

Are those have the magnet on the inside kind of like the transfer case one.

I like taking care of my vehicles. I think I will be doing transfer case, rear and front diff before winter. Not sure how I feel about the transmission tho. I can't find the dipstick - I am thinking it doesn't have one like the 2016

I will also be doing my oil early.  Around 1500 miles.  Currently just below $800.  I'm a believer in it can't hurt, only help.  Then every 5K.  I believe all of the 2019's come without a dipstick for the transmission fluid.  I believe special tooling is required to replace the ATF fluid.  Not really sure what's involved with that.  I don't believe there is a drain like on most older vehicles where you could drain and fill it yourself.

Actually the 2016 didn't have a drain plug and it I had to drop the oil pan. But yesterday I saw what looks like a drain plug on the transmission pan. To switch out the filter you will have to drop the pan. For filling might be like my old F150 there is a fill plug with crappy dipstick that can be reached from underneath with 3 degree burn because they decided to put it by the catalyst converter.
