I am swapping the engine from a wrecked 98 Chevy Cheyenne to a 92 Chevy Silverado. Can I just swap the engines and will it just work? Are the wiring harnesses compatible? I have heard that there is an adapter that is required, but I don't know if this is accurate information.

you will have to use your manifolds intake and exhaust your distributor and all sensors from the 92 engine for the 98. the 92 engine is a tbi witch only uses 2 injectors where 98 is multiport and uses 8 injectors

The intake manifold’s will not interchange. The 92 manifold Bolts sit diagonally while the newer Vortech engine manifold bolts are vertical where they bolt to the heads. Wiring harness connections will all be different but I’m not sure on the adapter availability. I would assume you would need a new computer as well since you are going from throttlebody to multi port injectors. I was gonna swap a 96 into an 88 but decided it was more trouble than I wanted to mess with. 88-94 engines are compatible for sure. Not sure on 95’s, but 96’s and newer are vortecs with the different heads.
