Rims stuck to hub

About a month ago I bought a used 2015 Silverado Crew Cab with 70,000 miles. Sure enough a couple days ago I started hearing the wear indicator on a front brake pad squeaking.  Changing brake pads arent a big deal but getting the tire off was a pain. I needed a cheater bar to get the lugnuts off. I'm a decent size guy and never had this problem before. Then when all of the lugnuts were off I had to use a dead blow sledge hammer to to break the rim free of the hub. Looks like there was alot of corrosion binding the 2 together. Makes sense with the different metals mating up. My question is...what do you guys use to minimize this? Anti-seize, grease?

Ive had it happen a couple of times when I buy a used vehicle.  I'm betting that that may be the first time that wheel has been taken off in 70k miles. shouldn't be an issue if doing wheel rotations regularly.  I wouldn't worry about putting anything on them, just replace the rotor along with the pads and clean off the back part of the wheel hub.  I wouldn't put anything on the studs for the lugnuts, last thing you want is those to come loose driving. if they are rusted, knock them out and put new ones in.

Interestingly, my local tire shop (very reputable) will NOT use anti seize on hubs. As policy. Dunno why, seems this application is precisely what it was made for, but ok.

As others have said, I prefer to clean everything well and then keep the wheels rotated. Simpler that way. I’ve had to replace studs and even use a puller to remove seized wheels before. Oh and a torch. Not fun.

For my truck, I put anti-seize on the face of the hubs, but not on the studs.  I do have to re-apply it every year or two, as I don't slather it on every time.  I don't put it on the studs, as GM specifies the torque value for clean, dry threads, and I can spin the lug nuts on and off by hand.

And after a couple of instances where the lug nuts have come loose, I also put the hub caps aside and put the plastic arrows on the nuts to easily check if any of them have come loose.

i would not use anti seize on lug nuts or studs. you can use a wire brush and clean the corrosion from the hub/rotors. if your studs/lug nuts are really bad might wanna replace them

    • Looking for help troubleshooting a metallic like front end rattle. Figured I’d see if anyone had thoughts before I schedule an appointment with the dealer.   The rattle is fairly loud and occurs primarily when the front driver side wheel hits a bump, even fairly minor road seams. Sometimes does it when the passenger hits a bump but I don’t believe when the rear hits. Rattle still occurs when foot is pressing brake peddle so I think that rules out the caliper rattle I’ve read about. I’ve also checked the running boards and they are tight.   Most noticeable at slow speeds.    Any insight is appreciated.
    • We try to make cruise the coast. It’s where our favorite casino is. I only want to spectate. Never took a car. Always had one to take. I belonged to a club once. Even when I used to drag raced. It was during test and tune. Probably because I’m not a night owl, party person.
    • We had a pretty big cars and coffee in Indy this past weekend.  Pretty much anything and everything was there.
    • Good looking Olds, and TRX!   I haven't been into car shows either. I'm probably not a convert but I did push myself this year to attend a few select events to challenge some assumptions and try to experience car-based social clubs in a different way. I joined up with the local Hagerty group for some cars/coffee events, group drives. A month ago I showed my '94 Camaro I rescued last fall at Radwood. Had a good time, but, there was some sitting around with the car and that's the part of shows I don't enjoy as much. I prefer to be a spectator, walk the show, grab a burger, go home.   Radwood was the only era-limited event, but where it had strict model year limitations, it made it up in variety. Having Jason Camissa there was also a hoot.   Where I see old 50's car shows, doo-wop and winga dinga music stuff fading out, same with "only" vintage muscle clubs, it seems to be the activity-based clubs/events which are gaining strong popularity. Places where all cars and interests come together.
