I agree, the website certainly leaves one wanting more.

The B&W will not hit, even if not in its stowed position UNLESS you have the ball near the top of the adjustment range. So far, I have towed 2 enclosed and 1 tilt, and 2 different PWC  trailers and all have needed the ball adjusted very low, either the bottom or 1 up from the lowest position. For all those applications, the ball is adjusted low enough that the stepgate will not hit when deployed.

 

My dump trailer usually requires a smaller drop, I will be interested to see where I end up positioning the adjustable ball.

 

The B&W is well made, works good and is stupid expensive, no doubt. However, for me, with a vast range of trailers to pull, it has been a very good purchase. Without this, I have 2 buckets strpped in the back of my truck holding 4 or 5 different drops and ball sizes.  Now, the B&W stays attached and ready for whatever trailer I need to connect to.

Guys we are trying to get the info out. If you have never done this before it’s a work in progress. A lot has to go into this and thanks to the feedback we are receiving we  are trying to make some changes so that it will be easier to understand. We understand about the email and will look into that. We also will try to get a better video out of the product and how it works. Please be patient and Thanks!

The B&W hitch will bang into the gate the first time you forget to fold it under. 

 

The lockout seems like it would work, but I don't care for the lack of information on how it hooks into the truck, etc... 

 

The other thing I would like is a 2.5" hitch that cleared. 

 

Small problem to have for such a great truck, I am sure better solutions will show up soon. 

 

This was when I was test driving the truck and only had a 6" adjustable drop hitch to test with. I bought a $30 used non-adjustable 8" drop hitch to use with the boat, but bought an adjustable Weigh Safe 10" drop hitch to use with my inline snowmobile trailer to level it out.

Thank you, does look like 8" drop is the ticket for a boat. 

 

The TailgateFix on Amazon link was helpful, it does seem pretty clean looking. 

 

B&W hitch now back in contention in my mind too, that was helpful In2racn, thank you.

I wonder if we can just make our own switch?  I like the manual idea.  But I would like a more clear on off indicator, plus I do not trust that their adhesive will hold it in all weather conditions. I'm thinking I could tuck it up under the bumper....

Couldn’t you just install it with some jbweld?

I have this too. There’s a ton of room to use the tailgate, works great. Unfortunately it does help me when I use the WD hitch for my travel trailer. I can remember it. But my wife, son, other family member, friend, etc... won’t. So I definitely see the appeal to this solution. I wonder if the manual switch version could be wired up to an upfitter switch.

I cant open a standard tailgate with the travel trailer hooked up because of the tongue jack. Not being able to use the step is really not an issue to me. I have B&W also but have not used it. Does anyone have issues with how close the ball is to the truck? Seems like tight turns could cause trailer to truck contact.

You can definitely just put a switch in.  Cut one wire, splice the switch in, and you are done.

With the B&W I haven't had any issues with my 8.5 wide v-nose enclosed trailer. I am very careful to not crank it around tho too. my thought is if you jackknife it you either did something wrong, or shouldnt be where you are in the first place.

I'm thinking a simple rocker switch would be perfect.  Can you think of any good waterproof switch options?  Do you happen to know what gauge those wires are?  I found waterproof self splicing caps that are good for 22-14g wire.

I got the B&W 3 ball hitch. What an incredible piece of hardware! I ordered the locking pin to help it to not grow legs. 

 

I really like it, had to pull car trailer with 2-5/16 ball, pull pin, rotate, and done. They are expensive, but pleased with the build quality.

Anyone have the schematic, or wire number, ID information that the switch need put in series with?

    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far.
