I think what's important is to research your needs and put them above your wants when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. In my case, I wanted a roomy and comfortable truck that is daily driven and occasionally tows with a family. I ended up with a High Country Crew Cab with the 5.3 and 10 Speed transmission.  The truck is perfect for my family and is able to comfortably tow our 7,000 lb travel trailer. Do I regret purchasing a 5.3? No. Why? Re-read my first sentence.

I bought my 5.3L RST in March 2019, when there was no talk from GM about a 6.2L option for the RST. I was content with the 5.3L, as I was coming from a 2007 5.3L, so I was getting some gains with the new variant.

However, when GM announced the 6.2L in the RST trim later in 2019, I started to have a little envy for the bigger motor.

I just found my cure.

Put the GM CAI and GM Performance Exhaust on the truck the past week. Wow. Brand new motor! I still have basically the same power/output in my 5.3L, but it FEELS like a legit beast to me now. So I am, once again, happy with my 5.3L. ?? ?

...the 8spd transmission vs. the 10spd that comes with a 6.2L, however... different story.

My step dad just bought a new Sierra SLT x31 with 5.3L and 10 spd and I was greatly impressed with it compared to my previous 16 and 17 5.3l and 8 spd combo trucks. This new truck would walk all over my previous trucks. He traded in a 13 Furd eco-bust too. He thinks it’s just as snappy and is already getting 21 mpgs with new truck. His Furd couldn’t EVER crack 18 mpgs.  Always cracked me up because they are supposed to be so fuel efficient,  according to Furd.

[emoji16] “Perception is reality”

Factual: waste of money, doesn’t do much if anything, has been known to decrease power.

Perception: whatever makes you feel better.

The gains are 12 hp and 6 lbs ft of tq for the GM performance package with duals. I just got done reading that you can tell the difference from stock unit.
I put a Corsa and CAI on mine and I can tell a huge difference.  To each their own. The facts point to an increase in HP/TQ

You’re right, to each their own. I too did the same some years ago, with zero positives. It’s known throughout the forums, unless you change out your computer, doesn’t matter what you do. The dealership can add a new program along with the add on but without reprogramming the computer, it’s all wishful thinking or as stated above, ones perception

Lol, I’m not pissy, I’ve just stated a fact and I didn’t have a bad experience, more of worthless ones. I’m retired now. the owner of a large Ship Repair company, countless vehicles and experiences far beyond the typical consumer. I’ve stated a fact, you’ll have to renegotiate with the brains of the operation in order to gain. Those that put out that attaching products onto their vehicles actually boost HP are just trying to make themselves feel better for blowing their money in gimmicky products.

There’s nothing an exhaust system will do without the computer reprogrammed except make it louder. My Gmc dealer told me that there’s a 15hp boost available but only through reprogramming the computer.
My truck is an 18, 6.2 SLT that’s embarrassed many new truck owners and all I’ve done is tune it, no exhaust, no cai, just the computer telling it all to do something add ons can’t. Run 5-7 gallons of E85 in with super and you’ll get more from this than add ins.

Stay safe, Good luck.

So, getting back on track, the 5.3 is great for just about anything. The 6.2 asserts itself leaps and bounds, does everything a half ton can do and so much more and with lots more smiles per miles [emoji1787][emoji12][emoji13]

Funny I call your bluff. You stated no fact. You stated a stealership claims no HP/TQ bump without reprogramming the computer.  That’s the biggest LIE I’ve ever heard. Better read up buttercup. Read the article. Those are true facts!

On my 2018 SLT 6.2L I gained a half a truck length on my fathers eco bust after adding the 2.   I then tuned it and gained over truck and half.  Now after getting my new 19 HC with a 6.2L. I gained .3 secs by adding my exhaust and intake.

say what you want but there are others on here that will also prove you wrong because they have added the performance package or another after market exhaust and intake and have seen gains.
