Not sure why people insist that it NEEDS premium fuel.
I always ran 87 in my 6.2 & it ran great. I tried running premium when pulling our 35’ TT and I switched back to 87 because it ran better & got better gas mileage than the premium. I saw no advantage to spending the extra money.

Seems like some people use it just as an excuse to justify a 5.3 over a 6.2.

I got the 2019 Sierra Elevation with 5.3 and I’m quite happy with it.

To get the 6.2 I would’ve had to step up to at least an SLT or LTZ, which would’ve been out of my price range.

Think it’s great you can get the 6.2 on the lower trims now!

I wish the elevation had the 6.2 option. It has the 3.0 option now so that’s cool. It’s be nice though to have the 6.2 as an option as well.

Every time I accelerate I'm happy I chose to stay with 6.2. I had a 2009 5.3, 2011 6.2 and now 2017 6.2. While my truck was in shop for TSB (tranny triple flush and new fluid) the GM loaned me his 2019 5.3 and I noticed it was less responsive from a stop but seemed to build revs more quickly once above ~2500 rpm. However, once I picked up my truck the difference in low speed torque was very much in favor of my 6.2. I have a heavy right foot and enjoy the feel of acceleration so the extra cost for premium 93 and higher cost of the 6.2 are choices I'm happy with. Just crossing 36k miles now and the motor "feels" like it is more responsive now than when new off the lot. A 2020 with 6.2 and A10 has been on my mind but sitting tight to see if/when a model with larger motor or supercharged 6.2 will become available. I don't do any towing so that has not factored into my assessment.

on previous models premium wasn't required but only recommended but new models read different in owners manual

Gotcha. Mine was 2014 so perhaps it wasn’t recommended yet at that point.

I considered waiting for the Trail Boss to ship with the 6.2L later next year...  But I got a much better deal on a leftover 2019 5.3L model, that waiting 6 months and paying probably $6-7k more didn't seem worthwhile...

I ended up scoring a 2019 LT Trail Boss with upgraded 20" wheels and tires, spray in bed liner and some other goodies, for $44k... I don't think I would have been able to get a 2020 6.2L with these options for under $50k...

I will say though, that this 5.3L feels faster than my 2018 5.3L Z71...  Probably that it weighs nearly a quarter ton less, and has the newer 8-speed tranny whereas the 2018 has the 6 speed...

Man, you really scored, getting an LT Trail Boss for $44k

Congratz man.

I love the 5.3 & 8 speed in my LT Z71 ( $38,750 )

The new T1's are fine pickups.

Btw, I also agree that the 5.3 8 speed is fast indeed.

One day I will have to have my wife and I line them up at a stop light to see which is actually faster...  haha  Her's has a tune and intake mods and I think makes better power down lower in the revs, plus her throttle sensitivity is increased by like 18 or 20%...

Although I will get a better launch than her... My Aprilia eats her Street Triple RS for lunch, but even if I take my little 64hp Street Cup...  She has literally double the horsepower and a lighter bike, but for the first 75 yards I am off the line faster and out ahead a good bit... once she gets her revs up, she rockets past me...  haha

For everyday driving with not much super heavy duty use, I think the 5.3 is just fine for the average owner.

One other thing I like about the 2019 besides the engine and tranny, is just how deep the bed is.

Used to, ya had to worry a little bit about stuff blowing out of the bed. Lol, not so with this bed.

Also, I think even more so than how deep the bed is, is that they aerodynamics of the truck, the front end, and especially, the spoiler keep things in the bed that would normally blow out.

Of course, if you tied things down properly rather than just tossing crap in the back and hoping it stays put...

Sorry, it's a big pet peeve of mine as an avid motorcyclist... Too many times I am dodging debris and crap in the road because some yahoo uses the bed of his truck as a trash can, or doesn't take the time to secure his Home Depot purchases...

One day especially was fun... dodging a large wheelbarrow tumbling end over end all over the road at 55mph...

Oh bullshit, that's not what I'm talkin about and you know it. If you dont, then I really dont know what to say. Of freakin course I'm gonna tie somethin important or dangerous down!

Sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine when someone wants to make a mountain out of a molehill. Lol, I'm assuming in good faith that most people here know what to tie town and what not too.

Methinks thou doth protest too much.

One post does not a mountain make.  Your response to said comment, however...  ?
