It’s so bright you cannot see your mirrors to back up and the picture is useless as well.

Yes I agree!! The dealer looked at it for me and said there was no way to turn the brightness down. I emailed gm social media and they told me the same. It's very disorienting.

I don’t have a problem with mine. Works great and the picture is pretty detailed.

I do do wish I could dim just the Nav screen though or if the background was black instead of the light grey.

The screen brightness on my 8" infotainment screen can be controlled at night with the dash buttons used for LED back lighting of the instrument panel. I find it necessary when using the Nav at night to dim the black background of the night screen.

And the HD camera and HD screen (convenience II package) and stock halogens in the backup lenses provide more than enough lighting and contrast for backing situations in total darkness although the lenses of the rear taillamps provide a faint geometric pattern on the pavement.

My 2020 trail boss with the convenience package 2, I turn the instrument panel brightness down about 50 % and my back up screen is not to bright. I have an LT loaner base trim truck right now and when I tried backing into driveway at night I was indeed blinded by the light of the backup screen. I didn't look to see if the base Lt has the buttons to dim the info screen but ill check next time I drive it.

On my 2019 LT, the dimmer button does nothing to the screen when the backup camera is on. When I put it in drive, the "regular" screen (radio, climate, etc) respects my dimmer settings, but whenever the backup camera is up and I'm in reverse, it's full on stadium lighting.

Pretty annoying, my wifes 2016 Malibu adjusts with the dimmer, and that's an LT also.

I upgraded my reverse lights to LED and it helped. Video quality is still grainy but lighting is much better.

Complain on the NHTSA website. Have your VIN. Takes 5 minutes. This is the only way to get GMs attention because they could not care less about customer satisfaction.  It is a safety issue first and foremost.

I have 1000 lumen LED backup lights in both my 2019 and 2016 Silverados and I can see clearly when backing either up.  I have never had the infotainment screen brightness cause any problems for me when using the mirrors in either truck.

Screen dimming may only work on the optional HD camera and HD radio screen, definitely works with the same two -/+ buttons in the lighting cluster controlling dash back lighting. Will noticeably dim at night and really helps on Nav and backup camera screens.

Yep, those were the buttons I was trying. How can I tell if I have an "HD Camera" or not?

It comes in Convenience Package II on LT and RST and standard on the higher trims. If you have an SD card reader next to your USB ports, you have the HD rear vision camera.

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
