Does anyone know what makes the trailer tpms sensors so expensive? $120 for a pair seems excessive, will any generic 433mhz sensor work or is there something proprietary about these from GM?

I do not but agree it’s quite ridiculous since it’s only $50 for FOUR if ordered from factory.

I just purchased a 2020 3500 High Country.  It has the Advanced Trailing System has (U1D) but not the TTPMS.  Can I just purchase the sensors for the trailer tires to get this option?  I read that for the 2019 Models it required a factory module installation but for 2020 models, the modular was standard (with the vehicle tire pressure) - all the option provided was the remote sensors for the tires.  I would love to use the truck system rather than get a separate tire pressure monitor..Thanks in advance.

You have advance trailering so its ready for sensors.  84338125 is the # retail is $150 that is for 2 sensors and hardware.  For 4 sensors you need X2 of 84338125.

Advanced Trailering System, includes checklist, trailer maintenance reminders, trailer security alerts, trailer mileage, tow/haul reminder, trailer electrical diagnostics and Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System module

Good news! Thanks so much. I had asked the salesman via email a couple of weeks ago - so far nothing, and it wasn’t real clear on posts on the internet. I appreciate you taking time to respond!

My trailer rims had the large hole, supplied sensors are for the small hole rim,  I bought 6 metal stems that had rubber seal for both hole sizes.  Slide the large seal over the supplied stem , use the washer and nut from the metal stem, you now have a stem for the larger hole rim.  Do not remove any of existing seal from the supplied stems. Tried that on one and it leaked.  All working as advertised on all 6 wheels.

@SenecaDriver -Thanks for this fix.  The valve stems that fit both sizes are called TR-416.  NAPA had them in stock at the local store.  NAPA Part #: NTH 90416

 https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NTH90416

However, the threads on the TPMS sensors were too short to use the TPMS's existing seal on my aluminum wheels (maybe on a steel wheel they wold work?), anyway, my tire guy removed the original seal and was able to get them to fit.  They've been on for several days now @ 80psi with no leaks.

Once the Sensors were installed the trailering program recognized them and the set-up was pretty simple.

I thought set-up was simple.  The trailering app asked if I wanted to set up the sensors.  I thought it went into learn mode, but there was no horn chirp.  It started the 2 minute countdown for the first sensor.  I let air out of the front left tire and I got a green check mark and pressure on the display, but again, no horn chirp.  I continued around the trailer and got a green check mark for each tire.  Never got a horn chirp.  Several days later I went and hooked up the trailer and it showed low pressure on some tires 62-67 psi.  I checked the pressure with a gauge and they were all still right on 80psi.  I deleted the profile and tried to set them up again, but have not been able to get the horn to chirp, either for entering learn mode or a specific tire.  Anybody else seen this?

I bought the modified stems changed the sensors to them and they set up the first time. After about a week I had to re-learn them. But they have worked the past 3 weeks.

I ordered the option with my truck and had them installed on our fifth wheel. I tried to let the truck read them but it wouldn't work, I had to order a tpsm to learn their location like when you rotate. That finally allowed the truck to read them. If your dealership wants 300. I would just go online to GM parts or find another dealer, seems a little much because the option is so cheap.

So I've been reading these forums for a few days now. The GM Trailer TPMS sensors are ridiculously over priced. Average $100 each Canadian or $70 each US. So I tested the sensors on my truck (2020 Sierra SLT) and found out they switched the sensors to 433Mhz. I thought if I try programming a blank sensor for a 2020 Sierra (433Mhz) it might read as trailer sensor. Sure enough it worked. So I got 3 more Autel MX 433/315 programmable sensors and programmed them for a 2020 Sierra. Took them out to the trailer and did the setup. Every thing works perfectly. Price for Autel MX 433/315 is $30 US each on Amazon. Any tire shop can program them for you if you don't have the tool. Be sure not to clone the ones on your truck instead do auto program. ID numbers have to be different. Other Brand 433Mhz programmable sensors should work too. But this is what I used and can confirm works.

I have a 2020 GMC 3500HD that came with 4 tire pressure sensor monitors but when I when to install them in my RV tires they were way too small for the holes in the wheels!  That was the ONLY part number AND these RV tires are recommended at 123psi ... am I out of luck?

@elag Can you mix the OEM sensors with third-party sensors? My trailer has 6 tires and the truck came with 4 sensors, so I need just two more. Verified at the dealer yesterday that they charge $150 for 2 sensors (the parts guy showed me the screen and it looked like their cost was $130 and some change).

Yes you can mix OEM and aftermarket. But to be clear these sensors are blank and need to be programmed. Any tire shop should be able to do them for you. Program them as a 2020 Sierra/Silverado at 433Mhz. Other option is check dealer for sensors for your truck. The trailer sensors are exactly the same. Betting they're cheaper as the trailer sensor is marketed as specialty item with jacked up prices.

    • Progress... sort of.   Intake is disassembled, spider is out, fuel lines removed. Used a torch on the stripped screw with the lower intake off, much easier when I've got the intake sitting on my workbench, I made it talk. Walked right out with a pair of vice grips once it was nice and toasty hot.   New parts are piling up on my service cart waiting to be installed. Distributor, temperature sensor, new gaskets, fuel line kit, themostat, water neck.   My new pickle is I don't want to spend $600 on a replacement spider. I'm not sure IT is bad. I'm probably splitting hairs. Or it's $300 to send mine away and another 3 weeks of the truck just sitting. I have half a mind to assemble everything with the old spider to see if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pressure regulator to be safe. The obvious issue was the gushing high pressure fuel line which will be replaced. Getting to the spider really isn't that hard, and now I know what I'm doing , swapping it would be a breeze should it absolutely need one. Stupid, or smart?   The part that gives me pause is replacing the distributor. Well, it's already out. And I didn't mark it, whoopsie! Engine was at TDC when I removed it, I know that, so upon correct reinstall the metal tip on the rotor should point to the TDC mark on the distributor because that's where it was pointing on the old distributor. Worst case I'm a tooth off and have to re-stab it.   But then, what? I assume the truck will start. It doesn't appear the timing can be set. Here's the problem: These distributors can't be rotated but a degree or two, by design. What I read is Cam ****** needs to be -2 to +2 degrees, ideally at 0 (and checked/set above 1000 rpm). There should be enough wiggle to get that properly set, but checking the reported value is another potential issue. My Actron 9185 scanner says it supports enhanced GM PIDs and Cam ****** is one of them but it's unclear that I'll be able to correctly see it over OBD 1.5. I can see why people end up junking these things with life left in them. They're an absolute nightmare with tweener-year diagnostics/electronics and unobtanium parts.   Fingers crossed it starts and idles nicely. There can be hope, right? I'ma buy a lottery ticket the same day just in case.   Next steps..DO IT. I have not installed an intake before so I've been reading and watching a lot. Some say NO RTV except on china walls, some say DO RTV on water ports but not fuel/air intake. 1/4 or 3/8 bead on China walls? I think my strategy will be, obviously, RTV china walls with overlap on the gasket corners. Chapstick-style RTV the water ports. Leave intake ports dry. The only set of intake gaskets I could find locally are Edelbrock performance gaskets (uh...for an asthmatic 190hp V6? LOL) so we'll see how they do.   #NoToolLeftBehind. It took an hour, but my recovery mission for my deep 10mm socket was successful. It had rolled down the bellhousing and wedged itself between what I think are the fuel lines? I couldn't see it at all, but with a junk antenna I had laying around, I blindly went poking/sweeping for it, heard it clink, raised the truck, and caught a sliver glimpse of chrome with a flashlight way up there in Narnia. I had pushed it farther along the lines holding it captive, but within access of severely improvised tools, poking and cursing at it to finally knock it free to where I could get a fingertip on it to bring it home.    Not much to see.
