How’s your 2016/2017 Suburban holding up in 2020? How many miles? Repairs?

How many miles do you have? Any issues or repairs? I’m considering a new family hauler. I’m looking hard at a 2016 or 2017 4wd Suburban or Yukon XL. I plan to get an independent inspection from my mechanic. Is there anything in particular I should make sure he looks at closely?

2016 Suburban K1500 LT - 5.3/6L80E/Single Speed T case/3.08s . We have 103k miles and counting on it and it's been dealing with -20 and colder temps since early December which is pretty normal for this time of year up here... between gravel roads, intense cold and snow, and hauling gear and people over mountain passes it does not live a pampered life.

I have done all of the preventative maintenance myself and stay current on it, I change the oil every 5k which is usually 20% left on the OLM (cheap insurance, not up for a debate ? ). Aside from a couple of upgrades, tires, and maintenance I have not spent any money on it... it's been one of the best vehicles I've owned. My wife daily drives it and loves it, hoping we get another 100k out of it... they sure ain't cheap lol.858.thumb.JPG.fe1c25490ae7df8c1d6a8b1c31789566.JPG

So that leaves the 6L80E 6-speed. Does this rule out the LTZ trim? Do those all come with the 8-speed?

This is good to hear. I got the same setup on my 18 hoping the simplicity = longevity. Chevy makes a ton just like this for the rental market, and its a tried and true design. Hope to keep it around for a while...

All vehicles with the 5.3 have a 6-speed. Pre-2018 vehicles with the 6.2 have the 8-speed.

2016 Tahoe LTZ, coming up on 70000 miles.

Replaced so far, air conditioning condenser, torque converter, rear Magnaride shocks, vacuum pump, steering rack, and tires.

For a MSRP of over $75000.00, I really wish we would not have had all of these problems so far, guess luck of the draw, but still not happy.

I owned my 2016 for 24 hours and had to return it for a misfire. The question remains what was causing it. Could be a collapsed AFM lifter, could be bad fuel injector(s). Needless to say, not off to a good start and a Google search will reveal that these trucks have relatively common issues with the aforesaid items, which run into the many thousands to replace. Good luck, make sure you check over whatever you buy VERY well before you sign on the line.
