5 posts in quick succession!  I try responding to one and a new one appears before I post!  [emoji6]  Anyway,  the statistics will hopefully be used to inform.  Personally, I hope the reopen doesn't happen until the numbers become much more favourable.  Once the pattern  is favourable then the reopen needs to be done slowly and methodically.  Returning things back to the way they were before a vaccine is found and used world -wide  will have devastating results.

Well, I guess once we reach 20 more million unemployment or worse or government runs out of money or inflation reaches 80 percent. That’ll be a good time? Maybe we’re adults we got the message. We promise to be good? While we have something to go back to.

See that green line? Deaths to influenza. (read right scale as a percentage of total deaths) That red line? COVID-19. I don't see any reasonable comparison. (Source CDC) Skip hospital cases and look at the deaths alone. Over 7 times as many deaths to date from Covid-19 that the seasonal flu. Numbers don't lie but liars use numbers.

Note that the right scale is % of the total and the left scale the total deaths shown by the shaded blue area.

If I have a disease that kills 5 in 100 and infects 100 I have 5 dead. IF I have a disease that kills 100 out of 100 but only infects 10 the I have 10 dead. Twice the number of deaths on 1/10th in infection rate. Which is more deadly?

Note this chart only goes through April 4th. It''s getting worse.

The difference in mortality rates is HUGE. (again CDC supplied) Seasonal flu 0.1%

Based on death certificate data, the percentage of deaths attributed to COVID-19 increased from 4.0% during week 13 to 6.9% during week 14. The percentage of deaths due to pneumonia (excluding COVID-19 or influenza) decreased from 7.5% during week 13 to 7.2% during week 14.

What I think is numbers make good copy but poor indicators. He's giving he numbers that reflect his bias or ignorance as the case may be. You have to ask yourself how informed you think he is. If he's very informed he's misleading INTENTIONALY. I looked this up in minutes. Public Record. IF he's ill informed he's just plane dangerous. IMHO.

Well that's what I think. You did ask. [emoji4]

Obviously you have a statistical background. Take the red line out, and tell me what you think about what we are seeing vs. the previous 5 years. Honestly.

I think after next week, we're going to see the grand re-opening of America, ladies and gentlemen.  Stagger in some areas, but we're gonna get back to work.  Keep the faith, my brothers and sisters.  And thank you to all of you for your service wherever and however you serve.  Semper-Fi, God Bless, Return with Honor.

You are correct, its about time. Anybody that wants to stay in and hide has the right to do so. ??

I'm not following your meaning. If I understand Grumpy's original post correctly, green line is deaths due to influenza and red line is deaths due to COVID-19.

1.) CDC numbers are "Based on death certificate data..." Direct quote from the CDC. That requires the Medical Examiner to make a determination as to cause of death. It's simple question for him really based on his examination of the corpse or the attendings notes. It's sort of the same question as, "Did the bullet to his lungs kill him or his smoking 3 packs a day for 50 years? If he would have lived a second longer without the bullet then the bullet caused his death. Hope that makes sense.

2.) All processes that improve, change. So equal? No. Improved? Yes. Ask a bigger question. Does it matter statistically?

I have a thousand marbles in a bag of mixed colors. To know PERFECTLY how many of each color there are I have to count the entire population. But to be 99.7% sure I can examine 100 marbles. ANY 100 marbles you care to pull from the bag. I just do the math. If there are six colors in the bag I will be maybe a marble or two off. Does it matter in a thousand marbles? A fraction of a percent error? Really? We're talking now 2 million global. Does a few thousand one way or the other change the percentage significantly? Not even ten thousand does. If there inflating or deflating by a million....well....Don't know what to tell ya.

People are dazzled and confused by the press. The press has an agenda. Poly-ticks has an agenda. The data doesn't come from either but it is spun silly by them both. Ratings. Approval. Votes. Herding the sheep. (Propaganda).

Ask bigger questions and you get clearer answers.

1. I understand how an ME is supposed to come to a conclusion. To say there’s no influence (Jeffrey Epstein)

2.Who said the process improved?

3. See first answer.

I plucked that graph from the CDC so the red line isn't mine. That said:

I see where your going with that. You want a comparison between COVID-19 and ALL FORMS OF DEATH COMBINE. Such a comparison then would go, "It's a minor fraction of all forms of death and as such, no big deal". How am I doing?

Here's a stat for you. 100% of all people die.

Donut_cropped.jpg

This is Cook County Illinois

You will have no trouble finding the flu/pneumonia slice. Yes quite small indeed. Not the issue. Mitigation in place has  resulting in 2SARS equaling those two. GOOD JOB!!

Now take mitigation away and start over and it becomes how much of the pie? How big does the slice need to be to become worth the effort?

The Spanish Flu killed more people than WWI. 40 million in war, both military and civilian and 50 million from the flu. The world population was but 1.8 billion then. 50 million is only 2.8% of 1.8 billion. Let that sink in. 100% of those alive eventually died.

So....question for you. Was WWI no big deal? Were those 2.8% of the population insignificant?

So you don't like the answer? :)

1.) then why ask if you know? Agenda? I thought it a honest question that deserved an respectful answer. I see you disagree. Okay.

2.) Increased testing says so.

3.) Influence and cause are not the same thing. You seem smart enough to know the difference.

Don't lawyer me boy. I got better things to do that trap Coy dogs.

She can’t help it. She’s lived in a bubble so long she and others can’t relate. How else can she sit back and let the payroll protection run out of money. A good argument for term limits. I’m against big government. Millions out there had their choice taken away. They need help.

I’ll say this again. This lock down was more about overwhelming the hospitals. Death from this is a given. It’s going to happen, and continue to. The Texas governor is talking about a rolling start up Monday. Yesterday was our biggest death day. Testing is up so is infection. Now if infections pick up they’ll roll back a bit. I believe it will be tempered by compliance.

Another new scare us fact emerging on fox’s graphics. It’s showing it can damage the heart and kidneys. So does other viruses, nothing new.
