The coating which I believe gives the plastic chrome the black chrome look is coming off both my fog shrouds.  FWIW, truck is a 2019 AT4.  It's covered under warranty but I'm curious if this is a known issue or did I just get a "bad" set.  I can't imagine I just lucked out and got two bad ones.  Seems to me like if both of mine are peeling that I'm probably not the only one?

As I doubt GM did anything with their supplier to resolve the issue I'll let them peel until my warranty is nearly expired and have a new set installed then.  At least this will extend the life of them before the "new" set starts to peel.

FWIW, my dealer informed me this is a known issue as they've already replaced a number of sets.  I believe there aren't enough people experiencing a problem for GM to take any action.  It's cheaper for them to just replace them as they show up in the service drive.

Not my fog lights but my grill is doing the same thing.

I would see if you can keep the old ones they take off and try and paint them or get them chromed yourself, would probably be the best option and most long lasting one. Or even have just those bits clear wrapped, willing to bet rock chips start the process and weather finishes off the job.

I believe I'm starting to see this on my 2019 AT4 as well.  I initially though "rock chip" but there doesn't seem to be any scrapes or marks.  I'm going to watch it closely and follow up with the dealer if it continues/expands.

I have a 2019 AT4 and my grille and fog light shrouds are also starting to peel. I took it to the dealer for them to take a look. They sent pictures off to the factory to see if its covered or not.

Interesting response by dealer.  My dealer said no problem, just tell us when you want us to order you new ones.  They didn't need factory approval.  I'm waiting to replace as I doubt the GM supplier has done anything to remedy the problem so I'd rather wait till near end of warranty to replace.

I wish you luck in getting your bezels replaced. GM knows they’re peeling and I tried claiming warranty on mine. They claimed it was a rock that started the whole process. There was no marring or chip to cause the peeling. It’s just a garbage process they use to coat the bezels and grille. So I had to pay out of pocket for new bezels and Xpel to protect them. Next beside protecting the grille with Xpel before it started to peel. The running boards have been replaced as well.  I have the black off-road GM steps. Dealership just ordered new ones and didn’t have a problem. The first steps started peeling. GM knew about this as well and changed it to a thicker powdercoat/rocker guard and it’s doing the same thing again…I tried claiming warranty again…the dealership had to go through GM for some odd reason this time to get it approved for repair through the RPA process. It was denied, claiming it was environmental conditions that have caused the peeling. Supposedly stones, chemicals blah blah blah. Not buying it, it’s powdercoat/rocker guard. You should be able to take a key to it and scratch it and it shouldn’t peel. Their prep work isn’t done right. The quality of GM has been garbage now for at least the last 10 years. Don’t offer a 60K warranty, if you’re not going to back defects, appearance, trim , accessories, etc if you’re not going to back it. I’m not happy at all. 80K truck and it’s straight up garbage.

Noticed mine doing the same thing.  Like mentioned above, I'll wait until a "new" batch of them come out, HOPEFULLY fixing the issue, so I only have to do it once....

I'm going through the process of trying to get them replaced under warranty.  It has been declined twice. "Rock chip excuse".  I was told if they could find it bubbling with no chip then they might be able to fight it.   So I happen to find bubbling with no chip.  We will see what happens.      It's funny how some body shops will refuse to paint chrome because they cannot guarantee it to last, But then a large automobile manufacturer will use basically a tinted clearcoat to paint over a non-treated chrome.  They are starting to decline them now because more and more people are having the same issue.   The gm body shop that I went to told me I was the 3rd person that week with my grill peeling.  And I live in a very small town.
