Can anyone tell me what the Air dam below the front bumper is suppose to do?

id like to remove it.

It's for aero, fuel mileage. They gotta try to squeeze the most out of a truck for emissions. Do with it as you want.

Isn't there a function that has something to do with cooling as well? Question?

No idea to be honest. The air dam is way past the point of entry for any real cooling on the radiator/condenser or transmission cooler. It can't be used as a way to help pull air away from the rad either because the front skid plate bolts from the frame to the bottom of the rad support anyway.

It’s there to direct air over the truck. Going under causes turbulence and creates drag. Some cars have plates underneath for that reason. Probably the reason there’re like they are on trucks they are easy to remove in case of damage off road. Cars usually are molded.

It tells you when to back up when parking in an area with sorta tall rocks.

Removing it affects the airflow under the truck. Which in turn affects the airflow through the rad and how the air is pulled from the engine bay and under the vehicle. Also effects vehicle downforce and handling. Nothing I would have believed a 2 inch piece of plastic could do until I experienced it.

Could of sworn I answered this guys post before..

A one inch Gurney flap on the spoiler of a Pro Stock is the difference between a new world record trap speed and going through the traps on your roof. Yea....I believe it.

I knew I read something about the air flow through the motor bay and how the spoiler effected it.

i'm impressed you know what a Gurney flap is... Unfortunatly old Dan passed last year I believe.... he was an amaizing engineer and creative bike builder...

I took mine off the first week I had the truck, for clearance and appearance reasons.  I don't miss it.  I don't race my truck, or tow 9,000 lb trailers up mountains on hot summer days, so I have not been dissatisfied with the performance in any way.

That was indeed sad news. We've lost many like him; Russ Collins for example. That guy was a Swiss Army Knife. Dan didn't just see what was in front of him. He saw what could be when you ignored the inherent frustration. Ron Trock told me once, if you don't like where a bolt hole is or it's in your way....move it. Remember the Shovesters? Shovel tops on Sporty bottoms?

Gurney Eagle...what a motor, eh?

I removed mine so I can get under it to do oil changes without jacking it up.
