Not ALL of the new transmission thermostat housings have the stamp on the outside of the aluminum which complicates things further.

Unless a new trans thermostat was installed within the last month or so by dealer, it won't be part #86774933 and won't be stamped with the 70. I imagine the reason for stamping the new housing with the identifiable 70 is for the tech to be able to identify it for reasons of trans fluid service. With the old thermostat, the trans temperature would have to be increased to 180⁰ or so to do the exchange. With this new redesigned thermostat, the transmission temperature would only have to be raised to 135⁰ or so.

Mine was not stamped 70. At least at first look it wasn't. What looks like happened un magnification, is that was stamped 70 the some other lines of numbers stamped OVER the 70. Just FYI.

If you read the TB, they state that the part number did not change and it requires the tech (or end user) to verify there is a "70" stamped in the housing. Whether that has changed or not, I do not know, as the verbiage does not show to have changed within the TB.

 

Hence why I stated, if one was to order the old tstat housing- they would need to ensure its stamped with a 70. If it is, it has the 135. If it doesn't, it has the 180 and can be used for a pill flip option.

The part I received had the new part number on it.  The techline bulletin also states that there is a new part number.  I believe this information about the part number not changing is false to be honest.

I just found this. And it has a note that states: 

 

The "70" may be difficult to read as a dot print may be stamped over the "70". "

Yep, on mine those little numbers were stamped right over the 70 obscuring it.

Just thought I would add to the thread. My truck is still running and shifting like it should. The temps are still lower than they were with the thermostat in place. I drove it 11 hours to south Florida last October with no issues at all. I don't remember the exact temps the trans was running but it was no where near the opening point of the stock thermostat. Maybe 150-160 degrees F. at the max. I'm still happy with the flip and I still do my one gallon trans fluid swap every 15k miles.

Last july I ran NY to KL, FL straight through and again in the return trip, and also saw far lower temperatures than ever with the stock thermostat.  I may have already posted them in this thread, but IIRC they were lower than the revise thermostat temperatures.  If I lived South of the Mason-Dixon, I would probably have left it flipped instead of trying out the revised thermostat.

I haven't towed anything and never do but I can confirm that after a 1,200 mile journey from the north to the south with ambient temperatures ranging from 20' degrees to 75' degrees that I haven't noticed the transmission temperature rise above 149' while having the new revised transmission thermostat installed.  The only place I haven't taken notice was descending the mountains of Tennessee, where they have runaway ramps in place.  Going home we'll be driving the opposite way going up so hopefully I'll remember to keep a watchful eye on the temp for s&g's.  With the Original transmission thermostat the transmission temperature would likely be around 190' by comparison.

I read through this thread and learned a lot.  But I have a couple of questions.  I did the pill flip on my 2017 Suburban 6l80.  I did it because I tow a 6500lb travel trailer and the trans temps were a shy over 200 flat towing and climbed to 210-215 when towing up a grade.  With the swap, towing on a level plane results in trans temp of 175 and when going up a grade 195.  
I’d like to get the temps down a little more so I was considering adding a Tru-Cool 30k trans cooler.  Btw, currently the fluid goes through the radiator tank and then the condenser cooler.  
However, my Suburban has the shutters in front of the radiator that I understand close at certain times.  Would this negate the benefit of the added cooler?  
Appreciate any thoughts or experiences.

Yes, the grill shutters suck for trying to being down thermal deltas. I have been fighting this issue myself.

 

If you get a tuner (HP or Diablo) you can simply disconnect and remove the shutters. Once you do this you will receive a fault code in the engine along with a check engine light. With HP or Diablo, ask the tuner to simply make that P code "not reportable" and boom, done. Once I am better, the grill shutter delete is my next objective. 

 

I have some data somewhere but I think it was 35mph where they shut (obviously dependent on parameters) and then they opened again as I was coming to a stop. Even with my 174F katech coolant thermostat, I was still seeing 190s + for ECT. Once the shutters opened my temps dropped.

 

Ditto on the trans temps. Much better with a pill flip but summer heat in AZ and towing can sometimes get up there a little

Thanks 14burrito.  I am in Phoenix, so yeah, the temps are tougher to deal with.  I saw somewhere where someone removed some of the slats in the shutter, opening about half of it.  If I were to do something like that, would I still need/want an extra cooler?  
so many things to consider.  Lol.

That is an option, as the flap motor will still have limits, therefore shouldn't register a code. The ATF cooler lines enter the condensor on the passenger side, and if memory serves correctly the ATF circuit in the condensor is the top 1/4 of it. So keep that in mind when removing vanes, youd want to remove the ones towards the top. That is if I recall the circuit correctly. It's worth a try for sure.

 

There in lies something to consider with an aux cooler and the K2 w/shutters...location and ATF line routing IF one was to add an aux cooler inline. The Mishimoto trans cooler seems to be mounted where the shutter vane assembly would otherwise be. For it to also be effective it would need to be mounted in front of that assembly.

Does anyone know if installing the new T-stat from the TSB with the "70" stamped on it would void an extended warranty?  I have a 2019 with 42,000 miles on it.  I have an extended warranty up to 82,000 miles.  I would like to install the new TSB T-stat but I don't want to have an issue with the warranty if I have tranny troubles down the road.

    • consider doing electrical testing?  I would guess some power or ground wire/connection has a problem.   alldata.com has wiring diagrams, connector pinouts and diagnostic procedures you can use to find where the problem is.
    • can you tell if the reader is actually trying to get codes, and the pcm is reporting none, or is your reader just silently failing because it's not communicating with the pcm?
    • Any joy with this truck seems to be short-lived.   The CEL for P0172 ("bank 1" too rich) is now "intermittent".   I'm not sure where to check, or re-check, and my energy to keep chasing problems with junk is wearing thin. The P0172 seems to set as I'm coming to a stop, completely off the throttle, when fully warm. At least, that's what it's done the 3? times it's set.   Everything appears normal on the scanner EXCEPT long term fuel trim. There's only one bank on this vehicle because it's an OBD 1.5 with only one upstream O2 sensor. At idle, it's around -16.4% and will dip to -18% occasionally at idle or off-throttle. LTFT approaches 0 when throttle is held at 2500rpm. Short term appears normal, much closer to zero all the time. The LTFT tells me the engine is running rich at idle but compensating at higher load. But, why?   The EVAP purge valve doesn't appear to be leaking/sucking fuel vapor continuously. Is it sticking just as I come to a stop and the engine is choking on fuel vapor and sets the P0172? But that doesn't explain the persistently negative LTFT. Disconnecting the purge valve doesn't seem to make any difference.   I suppose that leaves another dang issue with the fuel injector. A leaking fuel pressure regulator, a new leak in the spider, or a leaking fuel injector/poppet valve I didn't see, or a small crack in one of the spider legs.   The vacuum line leading to the fuel pressure regulator doesn't have raw fuel in it. It doesn't even smell like fuel when it's pulled off, not until you suck air through it, then you can tell it leads to a fuel component. I'd consider that normal? Nothing is signaling this is a FPR issue from the outside, at least.   The oil smells like fuel but it's not building volume. I've noticed most oil in most engines smells like fuel to some degree so it's hard to say if the smell is an issue or not. Or if the engine just still smells like fuel because the crankcase was full of it a few hundred miles ago. But it's been changed twice since that original issue of the leaking fuel line dumping fuel into the intake.   Patience is running very thin. Every win seems to be accompanied by two steps backwards, or another issue that leads to removing at least the top half of the intake manifold. Enough! LOL
    • First off you mentioned "Toyo Says" and then gave the pressures 45/50, was this some person at the tire shop that pulled those numbers out of his head ?   Now of course I can't know your exact axle weights front and rear, however I have much the same pickup as yourself other than not knowing your starting weight as per the pounds the truck rolled out of the factory at due to the options yours did or didn't come with or what you have added beyond the extra tire weight. The correct way to know 100% where a person is at is by weighing each axle with the typical weight the vehicle is driven with and that means taking into account passengers and making sure you figure in a full tank of fuel and a little grace for whatever you may put in the bed "groceries" !    I am looking at and not that it really matters as all the tire companies use the same charts anyway, but I am looking at the comprehensive Toyo tire chart in the section that your tire falls under and I know it sounds confusing but your tire is not an LT metric tire like your factory tire but instead because its a standard inch measured tire its under a different category called an LT floatation series tire. That makes a difference as LT metric tires they don't want to see run below 35 psi at highway speed where as with the LT floatation series it can be run down to 25 psi on the highway as long as the weight on the said size of tire is agreeable with or less than that minimum 25 psi. It blows many people away that how is this physically possible, an empty truck for one thing and larger tires with the same size wheel diameter have a lot more air volume so they can carry the same weight as the smaller tire with less air pressure.    So my truck, I have the stock 275/65R20 wheels and tires and I have a bit of weight in the box with a bak flip cover and a rubber bed mat and some tools and spare gas. The front of my gas truck weighs a bit more than some trucks of the similar spec due to double batteries and alternators. However with full fuel and just me in the truck I am weighted such that I can run 40 front and 35 rear and so that is what I have done since day one.    If I base your truck at or slightly below the weight of my truck, in theory with your tires going by the tire chart you might be right around a minimum of 30 pounds front and 25 pounds rear. Of course that would hit pretty much minimum cold inflation pressure one could run with that tire size and a near empty truck. If you have access to an accurate weigh scale to do individual front and rear axle weights I would suggest you do that and make sure your topped up with fuel and whatever else in the truck before you weigh it and then you will have a great starting point to work off of and figure out what your bare minimum pressures are you can safely run. If you do much in the way of hot weather high speed driving, bumping up a bit for a safety margin is never a bad idea but just depends on what type of driving you do. I will include the Toyo chart and the floatation series sizes start on page 31. Without a doubt at these pressures I am speculating at minimum wise for your truck, it would most certainly ride very different then it did when you were using 55 lb front and rear.     https://www.toyotires.com/media/pxcjubjs/application_of_load_inflation_tables_20200723.pdf
