I leave mine enabled. Has to be certain conditions to auto stop (cooler temps) and mine doesn't auto stop often. It doesn't bother me when it does.

It’s hot where I live so the ac is always running, as a result my truck never auto stops ifk

I’ll add... the only time I’m personally annoyed with A/S is when I roll up to a stop sign that I know I’m only going to stop at for like 1-2 seconds before turning or going thru. When I’ve forgotten to turn A/S off, that’s been a ??‍♂️ because just as the truck is shutting off, I’m already lifting my foot off the pedal to go. Doesn’t feel very good on the vehicle.

All very interesting in my opinion, 

The auto shutoff was $89 and gas is $2.29. Question the studies and savings. Cost of a replacement starter at 50000 miles?

I really do not care for it. If you’re the first car at a light there is a delay and then a lurch getting going. Bought the Range DFM disabler. It disables the auto stop, too.

I didn’t know the DFM disabler kills the auto stop as well. That is pretty slick. ??

I just came over from an F150 that had it, and I must say that it is hardly noticeable in the GMC compared to my previous truck.  I keep mine engaged unless I'm in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

I’ve watched quite a few of the videos of guys installing the Auto stop eliminator. I don’t know, I guess I’m just not motivated enough to do all that. 
 

To me, it’s just like clicking in my seat belt or adjusting the AC. Doesn’t bother me to push that button every time, and I do enjoy having it for those long stoplights. Why not. 

What they said, it's the first button I press before deactivating the park brakes.

Truck doesn't have it, but wife's suv (which I drive sometimes...) does.

 

Similar to what others suggested, whether it is left on or not depends on the driving situation.

Normal routine is to leave it active, until the first time it annoys me.

 

Between the type of trip, and the list of things that prevent it from operating, it often stays 'on' the entire trip.

I left it alone for the first 6 months, but now I kill it every time I get to my first stop and notice it's enabled.

I wish it would "remember" the setting between start ups. I think the taco does.

Disabled week 2 of ownership. I only drive 7-8k miles a year and do 90% highway, the only time it's turning the engine off is during short stop sign stops and that isn't saving me anything. As soon as it's off it's turning right back on in those situations. Range device FTW.

 

Rode with my boss to lunch in his Jeep last week, didn't know those had auto start / stop but wow is it horribly noticeable in a stiff suspension Jeep, plus the air went from AC to insta-hot. At least it doesn't shake the whole vehicle if you want to keep it on in your truck lol.

I don't mind it but I noticed that the starter will kick in prematurely at times before coming to a complete stop. It make a screechy loud noise.. And sometimes, there's this kicking from the rear end also that will happen just before a complete stop, not sure if that is associated though.

Out of the vehicles I've either rented or owned that had S/S, my 2020 Silverado works so well and is hardly noticeable.......

I just leave it on. 

 

Not a big deal and actually works very well........well executed system compared to most.

    • Enjoy the new truck, it’s a beauty. I’m glad you’re keeping the OBS, I love those old trucks. 
    • With large equipment or deep mud it is more of a use the higher gear to avoid spinning tires, getting stuck because of spinning tires and doing damage to your machine. The idea is if you run out of torque before you spin tires you can still downshift for more torque. If you are just spinning your tires in the lowest available gear you are stuck and things break.   Automatic transmissions, traction control and electronic transfer cases change the calculation a little as you the driver have less control over each piece. 
    • are there any codes? with lots of rust, perhaps disconnect/clean both sides of the connection/examine cable ends (the wires) for corrosion going into the sheath & replace if necessary/reconnect ALL the power AND ground cables between the battery, engine, frame, cab, fuse box and starter charm.li (website) has a no-start diagnostic procedure you can work through to get it working.
    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death.
