Thanks for update! This makes the Diesel pretty peppy IMO

So...Ford and Dodge and Toyota and Nissan don't have this same Obama standard apply to them ?

Cause they offer more gearing.

Now granted the Ford is only 1 with 10 speed but they offer 3.13. 3.31 3.55 3.73

All I'm saying is that it would be nice to have options besides 3.23 which 95% of GM trucks will get .

Same argument I have with only giving us a 24 Gallon fuel tank , when most others offer a large and small .

These are options people will pay for .

Your lack of understanding the CAFE issue leaves me speechless.

Im surprised you were even smart enough to buy a GM product.

I don't understand why CAFE is bad, I work in the auto industry as an engineer and I think it is great - the way I look at it, it challenges our minds, forces us to think outside the box and come up with better solution. I mean the car has very little incentive to evolve (usually war and other things pushes machinery evolution) and he is right, if it was only applied to GM we can cry about it but it is not, this applies to all OEM.
This is like the 30yo  that still lives at his mom basement because the world is unfair. while he is completely capable of getting a job and move out.

I think these type of challenges what result in better product, you never know this might result in pushing a better source of propulsion (electric infra structure - cough cough)

Another thing, 2.7L and 3.0L are the result of the CAFE which in my opinion both are great choices for a lot of people, if you want better fuel economy and don't tow much you got the 2.7L it is an excellent choice for day to day driving the occasional trip to the hardware store, if you tow light load regularly you got the 3.0Durmax good mpg while towing and nice low end torque.

I honestly think the 5.3 is ancient and should die, and replaced with some mid ranger turbo charged engine something larger than 2.7L

Last thing, buying a GM does not make such a person smart or stupid. being smart and making a bad decision like buying a new truck are completely different things.

Cheers!

Very well put! Once he's done being speechless , he can explain the goods :) All I'm saying is that all other manufactures give you options for gearing.

I also agree the 2.7 and new oil burner are excellent welcome additions.  I tend to agree on the 5.3.

GM Already has a Turbo 3.6 that made 420/430 a few years ago . Why not figure out a way to up the torque some more and you have an ECOBOOST equal . And we all know how successful ford has been selling the ECO engine.

Probably a patenting thing is the reason, cranking 430hp from turbo charged engine with flat curves

I never said cafe is bad, that is open to interpretation.

My point was that cafe standards are why you cant order just any gear ratio like you used to be able to.

If other company's are doing it, whats the tradeoff?

Going to smaller motors has proven troublesome as there are always unintended consequences like the early raptors drowning themselves if you stomped it after light highway driving in the humid southern states. Dont even get me started on turbo life.

If smaller motors are the answer, why aren't all mfgs going that route? There must be a reason.

Getting back to the gearing, go ahead and change your gears if you want to, but you can bank on the fact that the trans will NEVER stop hunting for gears.

With the 5.3/6.2 and ten speed that came up with a great and capable setup regardless of what gears people might think they want.

Going on fords build and price for the 21 models it is refreshing to have options like ford gives it's buyers. The coyote v8 with 3.73 gears outback and a ten speed sounds like a match made in heaven to me.

Last time I looked you could get that in a 2 door. It’s been a couple years though. Not the 10 speed then.

The 10 speed is standard on all their models except their base 3.3 work truck motor ( which changes as of 2021 as ALL of their trucks get 10 speeds now regardless.)

yeah the 5.0 with 3.73 10 speed in a regular cab hauls the mail . There are a few Youtube guys out there with big whipples making big power.

See I find it hard to believe the reason GM don't offer the higher gears because of CAFE only, ot might be a contributor. Its probably to save on manufacturing more or less. Because it is a ratio. So they have to make so many of the fuel efficient ones to the one that isn't. Therefore they could've made few with 4.10 and such.

Now I do agree turbo charged engine might be troublesome if you ran them boosted all the time. And you are correct, actually a friend of mine had one of the early F150s in Huston and ended trading it for a 5.0 because of all the issues. In comparison my buddy in ND had a 14 ecoboost that was amazing never had an issue with it.

Also, most poeple uses their trucks as a car mejorty the time, yours truly is gulty of doing as such.

That is why I like the 8/10 speeds and that is why I like the cylinder deactivation. And I like all the technologies, if you can get me from point A to point B for half the price without compromising the things I care about and then why not.

Anyways, to not derail this thread more tthanwhat we have, I will leave it at that.

Cheers! There is nothing that beer can't fix :)

It's about a little thing called LIBERTY!  The government seized power not given to them by the people to advance a nefarious agenda and we're all the worse because of it.  We drives great cars despite CAFE, not because of CAFE.  They would be even greater without Uncle Sam's involvement in seemingly every aspect of automobile design and operation.

    • Based on what I can tell, yes.   As for updating it, its a mixed bag.  Updates do fix a lot of issues, but occasionally can create some oddities.  They do more good than harm though overall.     Here's what the most current one does and a  V171 Improvements Important: Improvements will vary by model, build configuration, system, and sales region. Not all vehicles have all features. OnStar and Wi-Fi may not work after remote start CarPlay may not automatically reconnect Part of the Driver Attention messaging screen may be in English even though the language is set to something else XM may not work After a dead 12V the radio may set to Arabic at each startup Bluetooth contacts might not be able to sync with the vehicle During an OTA the 12V battery may drain Customer might see a screen telling them to return to the dealer After changing the Wi-Fi SSID or password a device may not disconnect If a device is connected on the 2.4Ghz band, nothing will connect to the 5Ghz one, which could show as slow Wi-Fi speeds Customers might have noticed Wi-Fi dropping in certain areas and reconnecting later Customer might see the top of the screen blinking during Android Auto Android Auto may not connect CarPlay audio might momentarily cut out The "Add Phone" button may be grayed out The radio may not start up   V167 Most Notable Improvements:   Outside Air Temperature is incorrect. -You may see a popup message for Engine Shift. (Corvette Only) After changing the exhaust sound they get a popup that "mode change not applied", even though it was. -When changing volume, the volume bar is for Traffic instead of Audio. -(Corvette Only) Improvements to the placement of buttons and text. -If the customer receives the message "Apple CarPlay Could not connect", the cursor might move in the opposite direction than expected when using the control knob. -Android Auto automatically starts playing their music, even though they have turned that off in settings. -Intermittently they have a red OnStar LED with no OnStar function and/or no audio. -The minimum length of the Wi-Fi password was increased to 12 characters. -The popup message "Driver Attention Check, check your mirrors or Super Cruise will shut down" may not have come up on the display when it should have. -Startup animation added for 20th anniversary of the V-Series on Cadillacs. -The Navigation app received location improvements when going under long underpasses. -In the Navigation app there are filters for charging points that the vehicle cannot use.   V164 Most Notable Improvements Most notable improvements contained in this release may include: Apps Intermittently, an “SD Card Removed” message will pop up in the Navigation app. While in the audio app, the radio may stop working. Trailer Tire Pressure sensors may not be learned in the Trailer app. Not being able to return to the home screen while in the Camera app. After an ignition cycle, the radio might go to a black screen or stop working if using Sirius XM. Spotify icon truncated on Audio app.   SXM When changing power modes with the ignition switch, the HVAC pop up might appear. During startup, the radio will show the brand splash screen then go blank. Receiving a confirmation pop-up when changing drive modes. A “Return to Dealer” message may appear on the radio screen. SuperCruise setting toggle may not work. System After an ignition cycle, the radio might go black or stop working if using Sirius XM (SXM). Settings When performing a factory reset, the radio may stop working. When the Android Auto screen comes up to connect wirelessly, the screen may freeze if the Cancel button is pressed. Removed the Apple CarPlay Cannot Connect screen when a device fails to pair during the autoconnect process. CarPlay information may not show up in the audio app. Near Field Communications (NFC) chime may be heard when NFC does not work. The Cannot Connect screen does not pop up after the first connection on wireless CarPlay fails. Apple CarPlay is now functional in Guam. Over the Air (OTA) When a software update is cancelled, the downloading logo may still be displayed. Energy When using the Energy app, the radio may stop working. When plugging in the vehicle, the display might show “Now” instead of “Charging Upon Plug In.” Instrument Cluster Voice recognition can be started while on an OnStar or phone call. • Looking for help troubleshooting a metallic like front end rattle. Figured I’d see if anyone had thoughts before I schedule an appointment with the dealer.   The rattle is fairly loud and occurs primarily when the front driver side wheel hits a bump, even fairly minor road seams. Sometimes does it when the passenger hits a bump but I don’t believe when the rear hits. Rattle still occurs when foot is pressing brake peddle so I think that rules out the caliper rattle I’ve read about. I’ve also checked the running boards and they are tight.   Most noticeable at slow speeds.    Any insight is appreciated.
    • We try to make cruise the coast. It’s where our favorite casino is. I only want to spectate. Never took a car. Always had one to take. I belonged to a club once. Even when I used to drag raced. It was during test and tune. Probably because I’m not a night owl, party person.
    • We had a pretty big cars and coffee in Indy this past weekend.  Pretty much anything and everything was there.
    • Good looking Olds, and TRX!   I haven't been into car shows either. I'm probably not a convert but I did push myself this year to attend a few select events to challenge some assumptions and try to experience car-based social clubs in a different way. I joined up with the local Hagerty group for some cars/coffee events, group drives. A month ago I showed my '94 Camaro I rescued last fall at Radwood. Had a good time, but, there was some sitting around with the car and that's the part of shows I don't enjoy as much. I prefer to be a spectator, walk the show, grab a burger, go home.   Radwood was the only era-limited event, but where it had strict model year limitations, it made it up in variety. Having Jason Camissa there was also a hoot.   Where I see old 50's car shows, doo-wop and winga dinga music stuff fading out, same with "only" vintage muscle clubs, it seems to be the activity-based clubs/events which are gaining strong popularity. Places where all cars and interests come together.
