I have a 2021 TrailBoss on deposit and a couple of questions just dawned on me

Couldn't find answers through search, so asking here.  I'm coming from a 2018 LTZ for reference.

 

1. My new truck doesn't have the "safety package", but it's got the HD rear vision camera -- will it not beep when I get to close proximity of something while backing up?  And I assume I won't get the front parking proximity alerts either?

 

2. It's coming with the standard 18" black wheels, but I just saw that the upgraded 20" black wheel/tire combo is available for an additional $500.  Is this something I can add at the dealership or does it have to come like that straight from the factory?

Ask your dealer if they can send you a copy of the options list. I had mine send it to me when I ordered my 2021 Sierra and it had every option installed called out on it. 

 

You can add the wheels at the dealer, but they will charge you to install/reprogram. Best to call them and ask what they can do for you. A lot of times they can swap you with some dealer takeoffs when they send new units for lift kits. Sometimes they'll be cool about it and charge very little if any at all.

Thanks!  I've got the window sticker for it right in front of me; shows HD rear vision camera but no safety package.  Just trying to determine if there are any backup alerts associated with the backup camera..it would seem odd to me that it wouldn't beep at me for proximity in addition to the camera!

 

Waiting to hear back from my salesman re: adding the larger tires at the dealer. Will update back here for everyone's future reference!

There may or may not be, only way to tell is to see all installed options for the truck. You can have the camera but not have sensors. I suspect it won't have them if it doesn't say so. Never hurts to ask for the sheet just so you'll have it.

Front and rear sensors are a great option and there are aftermarket sensors you can consider.  You are doing what many of us  do and that is you're still shopping after you've made your choice!  I'd take delivery as negotiated and enjoy your new truck!

1.  No safety package, no rear park assist.

 

2.  Not for $500.  That price is only when building/ordering the truck.  You are looking at $2000 for just the wheels and figure another $1000 for tires to do it after the truck has been built.  Cheapest option would be a set of Trail Boss 20 inch takeoffs and if they have a set see about swapping.

Just so you're aware. If you opt for the 20" wheels on the Trail Boss, you get different tires. You get Wrangler Trailrunner AT's instead of Wrangler Duratrac's. Better highway performance, but not as aggressive off-road.

Don't settle on the Safety Package if you cant afford it . Its worth every penny of the $890. 

Especially the front sensors.

He is going to add 20's to the off road version of the truck, I highly doubt that will be an issue as it won't be seeing any off roading that requires the more aggressive tire and larger sidewall, just a street truck so the highway performance I am sure will be welcomed.

Oh I don't care about any of that. I'm just letting him know that the 20" option comes with less aggressive tires than the standard 18" wheels. Might be an issue for some people as it's not readily apparent that the 20" option comes with different tires.

The Territory tires are a lot more off-road worthy than the Trailrunner AT's, for sure.

Not sure when you placed the order, but if the truck hasn't been picked up by GM and placed in queue to be built the dealer can change whatever you want

      It wouldn’t have happened if the government hadn’t mandated outrageous fuel mileage standards. It does very little for the consumer. It adds cost. Back during Covid there was a chip shortage. They gave a rebate for your truck if it didn’t have the chip to turn on cylinder deactivation. It was 50$ because at best you may see 1/2 a mile increase per gallon. Splitting hairs each fuel mileage trick wasn’t mandated. The government doesn’t do the engineering work and say use this until it’s already in use and they like it. The fuel mileage was mandated. And those add ons the results. There’s a mandate and they are the results.

      It was never mandated.  Ever.    Automakers were incentivized to install it by getting CAFE credits to help with their vehicle fleet fuel economy scores.  They were being handed money/CAFE credits to install it.  Which is NOT a mandate.       The current admin removed the incentives that were behind them installing it.
